The practical aspects of this project began with a presentation of case histories. An analysis of these cases revealed that these patients' histories contained eight 'pain themes.'  The spiritual care checklists (an instrument) used as a counseling tool with the pain patients were compared with those used with a control group of medical/surgical patients. Efforts were made to move that staff from the mentality of record keeping into the concept of information management.  The procedures for this action research involved examination of hardware and software, determination of appropriate system components, participant familiarization, an individual post-questionnaire for each software program and for the package, and a post personal or telephone structured interview. Evaluation was on three levels: participants' general impressions about overall effectiveness of computerization and their ability to function within the system; numerical averages of the individual questions in the questionnaire; and, suggestions of changes to improve system efficiency or effectiveness. Baptist Hospital (Pensacola, Florida) and the Florida Baptist Theological College (Graceville, Florida) cooperated to provide a seventeen-week experience combining classroom and clinical opportunities.  This project evaluated forty-five students involved in the program during the period 1988-1992.  The evaluations were positive, with weaknesses noted.  The intent of this project was to modify the program in light of the evaluations. The biblical, historical and current cultural context for the church is examined. This study shows that hospitality when placed in a ministry context for laity empowers them to be a welcoming church. The underlying conviction of the project is that spiritual character development must be a major priority in the church. The project involved working with a small group task force within the author's local church.  This nine-member group participated in a ten-week study course that focused on spiritual character development.  After the project was completed the report was written and evaluated. The central theological issue studied was the doctrine of the church, especially the priesthood of all believers. The results of the project will be measured in the life of the author's church and in his ministry. The participants were evaluated by a pretest and posttest as to their knowledge, attitudes and implementation in two areas: spiritual conflict, and ministry through vocation. This thesis maintains that women meet God in the ordinary experiences of daily living and that these encounters are often overlooked, ignored, or diminished. Fifty-eight memories of God from childhood through adulthood are recorded in the women's own voices. In this community of faith persons are empowered to minister in the midst of their own finitude and sense of brokenness, and discover God's strength in their apparent weakness.  The implicit challenge in this model is for the church to discover ways in which persons can continue to hear God's call in the ambiguity of their lives and find ever new and creative ways to respond to the living God on their own faith journey.
