The method is a series of ninety-minute interviews with nine gay men.  This allows us to hear the stories of gay men as they uncover the shame in their lives. Shame interferes with the positive affects of gay men, it causes gay men to experience isolation, a sense of being defective, and it contributes to failure around the issues of growth and development.  Pride results when gay men come out, restoring interpersonal bridges. Utilizing a Twelve Step-oriented methodology, the writer advocates a theocentric as opposed to a humanistic approach for improving self-esteem. Working with women at one California-managed prison--Northern California Women's Facility--the writer researches the variables affecting Christian converts who live in the environment of incarceration.  Quantitative and qualitative comparison is performed between a target and control group. Research reveals that incarcerated women's self-esteem is enhanced with consistent counseling, monitoring, and covenant goals. The training consisted of a weekend prayer retreat and a ten-week support group.  Each participant took the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and learned about their psychological type. Participants then learned four different types of prayer as taught in Prayer and Temperament: Different Prayer Forms of Different Personality Types by Chester P Michael and Marie C Norrisey. The challenge of designing and carrying out a new member assimilation program aimed at introducing new members to the full range of opportunities for members to participate faithfully is the focus of this study.  The theological principle undergirding this study maintains that the church is ideally a human community that attracts and receives new members, seeks to introduce them to its shared values, norms, memory, convictions and actions so they may participate fully in its life and work as 'citizens in the community of faith.'  This study examines citizenship from biblical, historical and sociological points of view. I used the approach of Lutheran theologian George Lindbeck to develop an alternative way to think about Christian communities and to develop a process for reforming a Lutheran identity through what he calls a cultural-linguistic model.  This approach, which I chose to reform the identity of Holy Cross Lutheran Church (Austin, Texas), places emphasis on learning the language of faith through the process of community catechesis.  A key part of the process for discerning the present identity of the Holy Cross community was preaching a series of seven sermons based on themes found in Paul Hanson's The People Called.
