Cross racial/cultural ministry offers the United Methodist Church through its theological tradition of an inclusive ministry (John Wesley's catholic spirit) and appointment-making process (church assignments) a unique opportunity to be faithful to the gospel of Christ Jesus, where 'there is neither Jew nor Greek; there is neither slave nor free; there is neither male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus' (Galatians 3:28)."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["0f245891-e4c1-47d9-842b-9aefbafae138"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791135208481751040,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:47:25.540Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T03:28:51Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:47:53Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"7259b6e9-7410-4bdf-a265-e7dd711912c4","accessControl_ssim":["17189ffc-2994-4597-895c-f39547ec7846"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Embodying the Gospel in creative narrative"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T03:28:50Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:28:47Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["780c6b8f-f64a-4ecb-9c02-4cad2345e71c"],"hasLease_ssim":["39e020c7-30d9-41d8-855d-7711bfc4a5d6"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Robert M Shelton","Prescott H Williams"],"year_tesim":["1994"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["William A McWeeny"],"publisher_tesim":["Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Narrative theology"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Short stories, those which can be told conveniently or read in one sitting, have the potential to encapsulate and communicate faith and values compactly and efficiently. Narrative of this sort is used in the Bible, e.g. the parables of Jesus or the books of Ruth and Esther. In this project I explore story as a vehicle for communicating the gospel. First, I examined exegetically six texts. Second, I made a brief historical survey of hermeneutics and set forth my own tentative statements toward a hermeneutic of story. Third, I created a series of six stories based on the texts previously studied and making use of the hermeneutic I described. Fourth I reflected on the stories, on the responses made when they were first told, on the stories of persons and the Christian community, and on the role of my own personal story as a Christian."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["0f245891-e4c1-47d9-842b-9aefbafae138"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791135240828223488,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:47:56.388Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T03:28:51Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:48:01Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"73039fe2-13f8-4ad6-a7bd-00234a5a7063","accessControl_ssim":["aa93404d-31d4-4a61-8c7c-131d5f6f73d2"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["A comparative analysis of the ministry in campus and parish: the effects of social context and identity"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T03:28:50Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:29:59Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["9c1f9512-1cd6-4dab-8b81-1d16d97ba840"],"hasLease_ssim":["8085e5fa-8b11-4a1b-a11b-8f6ee3f00444"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Christine Eaton Blair","Firnhaber"],"year_tesim":["1994"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Robert L Budewig"],"keyword_tesim":["Campus ministry"],"publisher_tesim":["Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Church work"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The project is a resource to better understand the similarities and differences between parish and campus ministries, and how the similarities and differences affect the programs, ministry styles, and forms of worship in each ministry setting. The testing of this process has validated the need and possiblity of the church as sanctuary of rest for re-creation."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["McCormick Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["7eda0323-a6d9-4fe2-807a-22620dd389a5"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791128623272427520,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:02:45.395Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T03:28:22Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:15:54Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"cf4ae63a-1c27-49c2-a0e1-e291a8664d14","accessControl_ssim":["28121f54-5736-44f0-b5b0-7abfc059f94a"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Baptized into recovery"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T03:28:21Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:04:17Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["b02ef5a8-44a6-46d5-885e-55dd285d13ec"],"hasLease_ssim":["b506aedc-d439-4221-abc4-f12392a7ef26"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Douglas W Hix"],"year_tesim":["1994"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Scott Dunbar"],"publisher_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Kingdom of God","Baptism","Twelve-step programs"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This dissertation is about the connections between Christian baptism and recovery from addictions through 12-Step programs. The basic idea is that baptism represents a paradigm shift from culture to the Kingdom of God. Addiction is a paradigm -- a world-forming power. Recovery is a paradigm shift also. There are many similarities between the Kingdom of God and recovery paradigms. The method is researched from a Wesleyan quadrilateral approach. Research for this thesis has focused on writings that develop the notion of the centrality of community, and especially how the concept of community has an impact on the process of preaching. The preacher is seen as one who is set in the midst of community, in contrast to one who is set apart from the community. The preacher speaks, not to the congregation, but for them, articulating their deepest faith affirmations. The preacher's authority is not hierarchical, but communal and relational."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b5eba5c2-141b-4673-9689-2f9720736859"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791129903347793920,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:23:06.170Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T03:28:21Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:54:19Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"45544374-8aeb-44b9-bb03-828b16d8349a","accessControl_ssim":["feb27a6b-6400-489d-9544-28f4b00b9e16"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Redefining and reclaiming Christian vocation"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T03:28:20Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:08:39Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["efb76c11-e0ce-4bbd-8845-284b7ea2483d"],"hasLease_ssim":["0c1a8aaf-dff3-4277-a485-e819d51b777b"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["George B Telford","Douglas W Hix"],"year_tesim":["1994"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Thomas P Johnston"],"publisher_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Vocation"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Today's concept and practice of Christian vocation, which sees only a select few as being authentically called, is a distortion of what is depicted in the Bible.
