Her method is modelled from chapter to chapter--moving from the formation of personal narrative, to reflection on how personal narratives connect with other narratives, to the discoveries of meaning within those narratives as contextually experienced in a religious community filled with a polyphony of competing stories. The action in ministry was an eleven-week course called 'The Lord's Prayer As Vocation.' Eight young adult members of Trinity Old Lutheran Church (Eggertsville, NY), four men and four women, participated. The theories utilized were transported from action science, developed by Dr Chris Argyris and colleagues, into Christian theology.  The process focused on action science's double loop learning. The components of the project structure--the committee, the pastor and the community of inquiry--engaged in this process.  Information was gathered through audio tape, verbal feedback and written notes.  The results confirmed the hypothesis.  By changing the pastor's behavior, the pastor and committee were changed. By means of literary research and a survey of 117 individuals representing endowed United Churches of Christ, the study gathered data on wealth and descriptive statistics on church vitality.  The survey acquired information through mail response and by interview. The study registered a surprising rate of return and generally resulted in a favorable response to the practice of endowment. The author examined the literature on shamanism and studied the theological literature on contextualization. The theological emphases of the church year are compressed and held in tension with the six 'deadly sins' which Wesley feared would threaten Methodism.  A twelve-item pencil-and-paper test for lay response was tested at seven churches to measure how effectively the full gospel was being proclaimed and received in worship. Using the 'shared praxis approach' to religious education developed by Thomas Groome, the design enables participants to examine a spectrum of abortion perspectives, to compare their personal perspectives with this spectrum, and to grow in understanding of the biblical and theological themes of each.  The design was field-tested in a number of Presbyterian churches as a short-term (four one and a half hour sessions) adult education course.  The author trained volunteer leaders to manage the educational process.  A detailed course outline is included in the dissertation. Though consensus about abortion may never occur, abortion education using a 'shared praxis' approach helps create new levels of awareness and understanding. Churches and ministers, ignorant and inexperienced in the mission to the handicapped, need practical guidance.  But, first of all, Christians must see the disabled as persons of dignity and individual worth, as they have been created in the image of God.  The churches should recognize the problems of the disabled and take leadership in eliminating the prejudices and unfairnesses prevailing in society.  The subject of this paper was limited to mentally retarded children. Part 1 presents the general understanding of mentally retarded children; part 2 explores the biblical resources related to the education for mentally retarded children, the development of their spiritual characters and the church's sharing with them.  In part 3 these investigations are incorporated into a practical program of church education.
