This case study involves congregational self-appraisal, interpretation of data, goal setting, program and ministry development, lay leadership empowerment, and the importance of educational ministries in bringing about transformation.  The findings of this study revealed that strategies for change take place through a combination of factors. Replies from 32 (80 percent) churches indicate that most are trying to survive.  A weekend workshop, consisting of five sessions, was planned, offering a study from an Episcopal perspective of the gifts and ministry of the Holy Spirit. The workshop attempted to clear some of the doubts and fears concerning spiritual renewals in the congregations.  Studies are made of the primary resources and the theological writings of early 19th and 20th century Anglican authors to the present. Five groups met for one-and-one-half hours, once per week for ten weeks.  Four of these used a curriculum consisting of personal faith-sharing, instructional materials, hands-on activities, and prayer.  A placebo group studied the Bible.  A control sample consisted of another thirty congregational members.  A questionnaire was the basis of evaulation.  Results indicated that faith-sharing produced the most movement.  New groups exhibited a higher degree of movement than existin groups. One hundred seventy-three faculty, students, staff, college Executive Committee members, trustees and members of the Council on Church Relations participated in discussion groups focused on a position paper written by the chaplain. This study tested and found highly successful the use of these visually portrayed literary macro-shapes in engaging and enlivening faith among Bible study participants in a modern Presbyterian church. The hypothesis was D plus S would be greater than S (D=drama and S=sermon).  The results of the study (which included well-defined control and experimental groups, and 1,397 individual surveys) lent confirmation to the positive effect of drama as an effective teaching aid.
