After presenting the historical development of the Order and defining the charism of its founder, the thesis explores the faith development and spirituality of young adult males who comprise college councils. Contemporary ecclesiastical documents, particularly Vatican II's 'Decree on the laity,' are employed to provide a theological background and understanding of laity, their mission and need for empowerment. A theology of preaching improvement and of preaching evaluation is presented. Elements of the project included the use of a training program developed by the Sunday School Board of the Southern Baptist Convention, a series of sermons by the pastor on deacons and lay ministry, and a more in-depth study on these subjects.  Methods of study included the project activities, the evaluation of these activities, and consultation of numerous bibliographical resources.  The thesis includes biblical, historical, and theological studies on deacon ministry.  As a result of this study, deacons were held in higher esteem by the congregation because of their increased visibility and involvement. Some inactive members did return to the church. The project was necessary because of both space and financial restrictions.  A task group was trained with a leadership training manual written by the author.  Participants in the training program were then enlisted to lead new adult small groups.  The project resulted in the establishment of several new groups. In the experience teachers formed one another collaboratively through their questions, stories, examples and passion for the Catholic education project. Spiritual well-being is defined as Christlikeness related to mankind as created in the image of God.  The eight categories of Christian maturity measured by the Religious Status Inventory, developed at Fuller Graduate School of Psychology, further refine the definition of spiritual well-being. ERFCA is Experience, Reflection, Faith/Tradition, Choice and Action.  A group of four to six volunteers met together once every two weeks over ten months with a facilitator.  Each participant covenanted with other group members and developed personal learning goals related to ministry currently engaged in.  A theological and an educational base is described. It documents an action in ministry consisting of a series of ten experimental sermons which were intended to be therapeutic for listeners.  These sermons began with the ten 'irrational beliefs' from Albert Ellis' rational-emotive therapy, and reframed common psychological problems in terms of the Christian gospel.
