Thirty-three Chilean pastors answered questions in personal interviews about their churches, their neighborhooods and their own ministries. This study examines whether the process of remythologizing the concept of God would be useful in aiding African Americans to form the church into a more suitable vehicle for economic, social, political and spiritual emancipation.  African American theology must be a unique and authentic expression of the hopes, aspirations and needs of the African American community while at the same time remaining open to the ideas and promulgations of the global community.  Chapter 1 illustrates Christianity was never intended by the slavemaster to serve as a liberation mechanism for the slave.  Chapter 2 shows some early attempts by African Americans to remythologize the Christian message.  Chapter 4 describes contemporary African American conceptions of God. Its biblical and historical antecedents are found respectively in the New Testament ecclesia and in John Wesley's ministry of evangelism in eighteenth century England.  This comprehensive ministry includes three elements: a sound theological foundation, a strong faith-serving ministry, and a well organized faith-sharing ministry, which, when in place, can improve the evangelism ministries of Caribbean congregations. Seventy-five people from three San Francisco locations were questioned at the end of open-air meetings as to: personal criteria; things important to them and problems; 'what do you think of' section regarding words as love, God, sin.  The results indicated that each group of people had similar needs and thoughts, which were different for each site. Documentary research indicates that shamanism is resilient and pervasive in its influence because it always satisfies man's inborn desires.  Syncretism has occurred when shamanism meets Christianity, with the result that Koreans are confused about the nature of faith.   Field research demonstrates a positive correlation (0.763) between shamanism and spiritual depression.  A worksheet was made for the spirituality depressed in accordance with the special context of shamanism.
