Generally, personnel witness has been replaced by a truncated, sterile proclamation of the gospel. As a result, many people have a negative, stereotyped conception of what faith sharing is. This has contributed to a decline and hesistancy in sharing the Christian faith. This dissertation explores ancient and modern models of faith sharing to determine how crucial personal witness is. A survey of representative Anglican theologians since Cranmer establishes a growth of teaching on eucharistic offering and sacrifice. A parallel survey of the almost 100 revisions of the Anglican eucharistic rite illustrates the liturgical evolution of the offertory in Anglicanism. The author analyzed a sermon by Meister Eckhart by focusing on four key concepts: word, image, detachment and union. The author draws parallels to these concepts in the teachings of Jesus and illustrates applications in the practice of psychotherapy. The concept of detachment is of special interest: Eckhart understood detachment as essential to union with God; the author maintains that it is also essential to the process of psychotherapy. The author concludes with recommending further application of Christian thought to psychotherapy."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["63ab0f5c-c5fb-460c-b8ba-dd2fd91f7145"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791133794136227840,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:24:56.715Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T01:53:48Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:44:17Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"535ff3ae-b623-4e18-9e38-56419e6d191d","accessControl_ssim":["ffe2d1dd-ed5a-4fe7-b469-5a3e28a6df1a"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Sacred circle: the influences of gender upon the emerging selves of a woman as client and a man as pastoral therapist"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T01:53:48Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:34:18Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["feb2d670-5f15-4477-a7eb-cc239be6df60"],"hasLease_ssim":["7f85694a-a387-470d-b143-48bdf049a239"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Christian Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Brian W Grant"],"year_tesim":["1992"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["D Royce Fitts"],"keyword_tesim":["Pastoral counselors and clients"],"publisher_tesim":["Christian Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Sex differences (Psychology)"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project explores the subtleties of gender within the therapy process, focusing on the circular process of pastoral psychotherapy: the influences of therapist upon client and client upon therapist. It examines the intricate patterns of communication which occur in cross-gender counseling and the deep internal meanings of the effect of a female and male on each other's presence and wholeness within the context of pastoral psychotherapy. This project was researched and studied within the context of three female clients seeking individual psychotherapy treatment with a male pastoral counselor. Male pastoral counselors need to be intentionally trained to be gender-sensitive.
