A committee of laypersons responded to and evaluated a series of four sermons using the metaphors of darkness and light.  The project is the result of critical evaluation of the practicum and research in the area of metaphorical studies. Homiletical literature was studied and three methodologies were chosen as the basis for six sermons on texts from Romans.  The sermons were evaluated by a committee of lay people. The purpose was to attract students that would not consider a traditional education program and offer them a highly contextualized, intensive training opportunity.  In preparing the model, the supervising committee drew upon the expertise of its members and a survey of similar training programs. The retreat was implemented in July 1987 with sixteen students.  Subjective and objective analysis produced excellent results. These three views in psychosomatic relationships were found to be operative in life-style programs of health-conditioning centers in the United States, such as Wildwood Lifestyle Center \u0026 Hospital (Georgia), Uchee Pines Lifestyle Center (Alabama), and Hartland Health Center (Virginia). Based on the above studies, a health education program for Seventh-Day Adventists in Japan that incorporates the concept of psychosomatic relationships was designed. Goal achievement by the program and the supervisor was measured by instruments completed by the assistants. Development involved assimilating the information to be taught and utilizing a teaching method which would help the participants remember and appropriate the knowledge later.  Implementation included five two-hour sessions using word models which were defined, illustrated and supported by Scripture.  High retention of the information proved this method to be an effective means of helping people remember. A long-range planning event was scheduled and conducted, where guidelines were developed that affected budget, staff structure and time-line for becoming a state convention. The church staff and a college worker analyzed the college ministry, interviewed students, and studied a questionnaire to identify needs of students.  From this study the leaders developed a college program involving each organization of the church.  The project made the leadership more aware of students' needs. The project included a study group that engaged in eight study sessions of the book of Psalms.  This group then divided into five sub-groups, each of which was responsible for the ordering and implementation of a worship service centered upon a theme from the Psalms.  The project also included the efforts of a project steering committee that sought to explore the plurality of the worshiping community through the use of oral interviews.
