The theological principle will suggest that the congregation needs to move away from viewing itself as the family of God or a fellowship, to an understanding of itself as the people of God. Research will explain the difference between: the concept of a neighborhood church and that of a metropolitan church; new developing neighborhoods and stable communities; and small churches and large churches. Over a three year period efforts were made to explore biblical stories concerning women with a group of women in a small rural parish. Methods included Bible study, retreat days, Sunday preaching, and use of scripture in pastoral counseling. Periodic evaluation and shared reflections were used as indicators of growth. The research has demonstrated that when women are exposed to the stories of women in the scripture they often respond positively, feel affirmed and challenged, and can develop an ability to critique the tradition."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799717807781314560,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:24:10.060Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T01:16:07Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:45:34Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"ca9b143b-dc11-4465-bb8c-35a9079896e2","accessControl_ssim":["455ff56e-a366-44ef-a724-8e3750ca2f30"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Memory and hope in the church: a study of how church members deal with disappointment and frustration"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T01:16:07Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:57:18Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["058a37dc-a80a-40b9-b2ee-0ed1f6c683ce"],"hasLease_ssim":["76427690-0201-4912-bdda-49ef3998e1c8"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Pittsburgh Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Gordon E Jackson"],"year_tesim":["1990"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Robert J Walker"],"publisher_tesim":["Pittsburgh Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Commitment to the church","Congregations","Disappointment"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The thesis details a project to determine the grounds of the continued commitment of members to a church in trouble despite their disappointment and frustration. Two assumptions underlie this research: 1) a Christian's personal giftedness is at the core of empowerment for ministry; and 2) empowerment is a multi-faceted reality. The project includes interviews of participants who recount significant events and moments that shaped their involvement in ministry. Results of this research project include a theological statement about empowerment for ministry and a hypothesis focusing on education for ministry."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799719652354424832,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:53:29.181Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T01:15:38Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:51:02Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"11d86f2c-d956-46b1-8235-639456afdb88","accessControl_ssim":["9db69b0b-2a1b-4d7b-a1cc-f96748960b62"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Healing ourselves: wellness for clergy and their spouses"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T01:15:37Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:38:35Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["eae8ef44-fc55-42a5-b00c-b882372b7b5b"],"hasLease_ssim":["f23b8f0b-dab0-409d-ad66-70b4919cc0d2"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["McCormick Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Emerson Abendroth"],"year_tesim":["1990"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Michael K Gillespie"],"publisher_tesim":["McCormick Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Clergy--Health","Presbyterian Church","Spouses of clergy"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The church is a body called to a ministry of healing.
