The program uses a counseling methodology based on a biblical understanding of the heart. Practical and theological implications of the program are presented. The thesis develops a biblical foundation for counseling in the areas of marriage and divorce and presents case studies to show how the concept of heart counseling can be applied. Four women were selected and trained to participate in an initial implementation of the program. The selection procedure and the training regimen are described. The current age is marked by an existential sense of 'the power of the demonic,' an expression used by theologian A McGill to describe those forces in the world which seek to destroy persons through loss of identity. Through Christ, an identity is given to individuals that cannot be removed despite the continued suffering and death in the world. Personal reference within the funeral sermon provides an opportunity to witness to the meaning of Christian identity in the face of suffering."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["d722638c-a7e2-43f3-93ff-4762bde0dde7"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791133582724431873,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:21:35.097Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T01:13:38Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:17:13Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"15f92cd7-f35a-4cb9-98c4-cd8dd4cb98c3","accessControl_ssim":["6d99578c-70fb-4e66-a71a-cdcd3e6dc501"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Contexualization in theology and ministry in northern Virginia"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T01:13:37Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:46:09Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["38c256df-34f8-4cda-adfa-845cd54dccff"],"hasLease_ssim":["d4e0be48-495d-4114-b72f-a2620a998444"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago"],"advisor_tesim":["James A Scherer"],"year_tesim":["1990"],"location_tesim":["Virginia"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Ross H Trower"],"publisher_tesim":["Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago"],"subject_tesim":["Church history","Theology, Contextual","Church and the world"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["In northern Virginia today, affluence, success, transiency, education, growth, and individuation are prominent characteristics of the social and cultural context.
