Church leaders who are on the cutting edge of ministry must learn to accept and deal with conflict in a positive manner.  This is the thesis of the project.  An initial theology of conflict is developed and is compared with secular theories of conflict currently having influence.  A rationale for the material is included as well as test results from the first group to use the manual. It includes the following features: preparatory notes, the actual roleplay, a peer evaluation, a follow-up discussion, a self-evaluation, and the teacher's evaluation. Two surveys were employed: an eight item survey was sent to district superintendents; and a sixty item survey was sent to pastors.  The superintendents reported that these pastors served credibly in two capacities: pastoring small churches and as new church planters.  The pastors were married men in their late twenties or early thirties.  Most had some form of formal pastoral training, half having completed seminary.  All found pastoring to be satisfying. Directed at lay people as well as church professionals, the writing style is popular and non-technical.  Research for the project included the study of leading mission books and periodicals.  Personal insights and stories were gathered from missionaries of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod and other churches.  Major fears and obstacles to mission involvement are openly discussed in the text, so that the reader might learn to overcome them. These churches, though apparently growing numerically, are spiritually stagnant and encountering crises, particularly with their young educated members.  Through interviews with the executive leaders of four of the largest of these churches in Nigeria, and a questionnaire survey of about ten large denominations, this writer has been able to document the problems facing their ministerial training. The result of the research has served as a basis for proposing certain criteria necessary to revamp their ministerial training.
