The three-fold purpose of this project was to engage participants in: 1) reflection upon biblical, theological and experiential dimensions of the Lord's Supper; 2) The planning of communion liturgy; and 3) experiences of 'communion as community' through celebration of the eucharist.  The author led a series of four 'Didactics and Discussion' sessions in which he presented research on communion theology and history that enabled group discussion.  Two eucharistic liturgies were planned and enacted. It relates its findings to a church which exists in an individualistic society, but which is committed ethically to becoming more community oriented.  The project describes five phases of development: 1) the establishment of a congregational unemployment task force; 2) the involvement of the Butler Unemployment Task Force (BUTF); 3) the incorporation of human resource agencies; 4) action taken by the BUTF on behalf of unemployed and underemployed; 5) the incorporation of the wider church. This realization prompted a survey and the implementation of the following goals: 1) all ages will be able to participate fully in morning worship; 2) a program of daily hot meals will be established; 3) services will be taped for the home-bound and services will be offered in their homes; 4) necessary transportation will be provided; 5) daily telephone reassurance will be available for people who live alone. The project approached this question from two fronts.  First, it compared burnout causes and symptoms noted among professionals with the experiences of lay people.  This research found a direct correlation.  The causes and symptoms of professional burnout are duplicated in the volunteers.   Second, a workshop was designed to awaken church leaders to the causes and symptoms of burnout, to develop their skills of observation and listening skills and to apply the workshop experience to local situations. This lack of clarity produces a frustation in both lay people and pastors which may cause them to move from one church to another or to leave the church altogether.  This project developed an eight week adult Sunday school class that explored the roles and expectations of clergy and lay people.
