With the effective employment of the gifts of the Spirit by the laity, a mainstream church can be renewed. The methodology of this thesis was the use of literature, interviews with laity and clergy, the personal observations and experiences of the writer, and a statistical survey of the Association of Christian Therapists. In contrast to the dominance of the clergy in the past, a new equality and service of the laity needs to emerge if true renewal in the church is to take place."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799721130090561536,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T03:16:58.461Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:48:42Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T01:47:36Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"1df98c65-5833-4c9b-bc74-550b47e5d0b9","accessControl_ssim":["3185b9ca-92f1-4f1a-a078-bf4df6c9dfce"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Learning from personal symbols as a method of faith development"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:48:41Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:01:06Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["98a7702a-280f-4f0f-bd96-aeef0ce98a60"],"hasLease_ssim":["3014693a-0502-42af-9c2e-44e75da7c01b"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["St Stephen's College (Edmonton, AB)"],"advisor_tesim":["John C Carr"],"year_tesim":["1983"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Keith E Gross"],"publisher_tesim":["St. Stephen's College University of Alberta"],"subject_tesim":["Symbolism in religion","Faith development"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["An individual can deepen his/her faith by participating in a personal symbol. Nineteen participants completed the program of meditation, scripture, journal writing, symbol choosing and symbol dialogues. Through written response sheets participants described how the process of symbol participation deepened or redirected their trust, meaning and commitments, i.e., their faith.
