Using a phenomenological approach, he compares and contrasts his lectionary usage within this church to both his own formulations upon proper lectionary usage and systematic usage of the Bible in worship in the early Lutheran, Reformed, and Anglican traditions.  As a theoretical base the author assumes a 'subjectivity of knowing' foundation. Based upon this foundation, the author devises a method of analysis employing an 'integrative matrix', consisting of 'perceiving', 'describing', 'conceiving', and 'communicating'. The primary objectives of this project are to recruit church members and train them in lay pastoral care in a series of six sessions over a six week period. The group was conducted through the Samaritan Pastoral Counseling Center of Nacogdoches, Texas, for a period of seven weeks.  Twelve people chose to participate in the group led by the writer.  Presentations were also made by a pastoral counselor and clinical psychologist. Each session included an opportunity for group members to share their problems with one another. With emphasis on Christian value-oriented education and counseling the participants in the project were provided the opportunity to grow not only in clinical knowledge, but in theological and spiritual knowledge as well.  Control and experimental groups were involved.  Six one-hour training sessions and small group discussions were held. There was a significant decrease in death anxiety and uncomfortableness in sharing with others on the subject of death and dying. The author researched and validated the centrality of preaching in the Baptist churches and shows that although Baptist theology of Scripture is high, it is characterized by narrowness seen in the use of favorite Scripture themes and biblical books.  He researched Baptist pulpit giants and states their method of text selection of waiting upon the Holy Spirit. A historical review of theological education in North America provides the background for determining the ingredients essential for contemporary theological training. Exegesis of New Testament teachings and miracles concludes that spiritual healing is a proper subject for education.  The curriculum contains 13 two-hour lessons making substantial use of current theories of behavior affecting physical and mental health, integrated with biblical and theological insights.
