These methods were introduced into an existing anti-racism workshop. Immediate antecedents were the Anglican religious societies formed during the evangelical revival in England, the Holy Club experience of John Wesley and others in Oxford, and the bands into which Moravians divided their communities. Each is analyzed. The class meeting emerged from the evangelistic organizational activity of Methodists. There is particular reference to the influence of Wesley's main doctrines of repentance, faith and sanctification. Class meetings are compared to the religious societies, the Holy Club, and the Moravian bands, indicating both uniqueness and indebtedness to what was occurring elsewhere. Small group work in the church is effective when it is informed by theology; small groups involve laity in ministry; evangelism is a life-long process in which small groups are important are the conclusions of the study."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791127252206878720,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:40:57.845Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:24:44Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T01:56:23Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"63ca83c7-7ae3-454c-8485-f870f67f3606","accessControl_ssim":["432059eb-ac4c-4f42-82ae-d129f1e9097f"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Introduction of a course in 'women and religion' into the curriculum of a small secular college"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:24:43Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:03:06Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["4a8c2281-7636-4c45-8e55-d980bc51b319"],"hasLease_ssim":["6d59a3a6-1a6a-433c-bd9e-f97bb45b9980"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Boston University"],"advisor_tesim":["Elizabeth Bettenhausen"],"year_tesim":["1982"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Mary Anne Morefield"],"keyword_tesim":["Feminist theology"],"publisher_tesim":["Boston University School of Theology"],"subject_tesim":["Women and Religion","Women in religion--Study","Dickinson College","Teaching teams"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project involves the design, teaching and evaluation of an undergraduate course, 'Women in the Western Religious Tradition'. Reconciliation is a central biblical/theological motif, providing a relational conceptualization of the work of Christ and describing God's intervention into the human situation to overcome enmity and restructure actual relationships of persons to God, themselves and one another. The church's ministry is one of announcing and demonstrating God's reconciling work in Christ, and of participating in the restructuring of human community in its own life and in ministries in the world. Pastoral ministry is an office of accountable public leadership involving three main responsiblities: labor in Word and doctrine, facilitation of the faith-development of the members, and leadership of the ministries of the church. The chapters on conflict and the clusters of denominational current opinion provide the additional foundation for the develepment of a model for the pastor's role as an agent of reconciliation."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["San Francisco Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["38714359-d032-4ed0-ae3f-cb82c8f65a92"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799715442300813312,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T01:46:34.162Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:24:43Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T01:55:46Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"98a90aba-f70b-415f-a271-86dcb291980c","accessControl_ssim":["36dbe749-e5f6-4e56-bb28-6317edfa4e12"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The use of the bible in one-on-one caring ministry by trained lay volunteer stephen ministers in the congregation"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:24:43Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:35:48Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["d5cb3d68-0ff4-4501-aa71-3ad5b1533895"],"hasLease_ssim":["9d38e9a1-f133-4a1b-b82c-56f114ebb2ca"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Phillips Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["M Eugene Boring"],"year_tesim":["1982"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Russell E Money"],"publisher_tesim":["Phillips Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Pastoral counseling","Church work","Jesus Christ","Narration (Rhetoric)","Bible--Use","Parables"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Research and experience with Bible use in pastoral care led to a proposal that lay volunteers learn to use the parables of Jesus in caring ministry to aid helpees in telling their story as a means to order in their lives. A pastor must sense people's pain and compassionately share in members' healing. Her method includes listening to and reflecting upon the experience of the people, subjecting that experience to dialogue with revelation, and deriving a theology of ministry and designing a programmatic response. Every portion of the letter is squeezed for every inference that can be drawn as to 1st century cultic practice which can be translated into our contemporary liturgy. Directions, examples, implications, and first principles drawn from the text of 1 Corinthians are conjoined by the author with the contemporary church at worship. He then describes what we may do as contemporary Protestants to recapture something of the New Testament fervor. The findings are: 1) 1 Corinthians is a unity, built around the central theme of the church's need to express its joy in the gospel as it upbuilds itself in love; 2) The great hymns to love (13) and resurrection (15) are not extraneous additions, but central expressions of that underlying message; 3) If we are to rediscover this, it is clear that we must build on that same foundation, to wait for and encourage each other, to make room for great difference of taste and doctrine, and to discover our unity in the resurrection. Decency and order may be the necessary machinery for carrying out the task, but our business is joy, and the rubric is love."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["San Francisco Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["38714359-d032-4ed0-ae3f-cb82c8f65a92"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799717886879596544,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:25:25.494Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:24:15Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:27:21Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"344193b6-f950-481c-92e5-cdb7c23df2a3","accessControl_ssim":["2a8a5b8e-2bc1-4092-a372-7dc044e53b35"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Freemasonry and the churches"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:24:14Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:38:52Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["88febcea-4789-43d9-a98f-82645f8efe6b"],"hasLease_ssim":["a4f48700-98ad-4f00-bd1e-e5743a2d343f"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School"],"advisor_tesim":["Charles Nielsen"],"year_tesim":["1982"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Don C Markham"],"publisher_tesim":["Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School"],"subject_tesim":["Freemasons","Freemasonry--Religious aspects--Christianity"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This dissertation shows the relationship between Freemasonry, the largest of the fraternal orders, and the churches. Examining this relationship in an historical-analytical manner, the writer has tried to show that there is no real conflict between the fraternity and organized religion. The author defines non-sectarian religion using sociological, anthropological and religious works. He gives a brief historical presentation of the fraternity in England and in the United States and explains the institution as it exists in the US. He treats Freemasonry and Protestantism from the standpoint of both the antipathy and the tacit approval of the fraternity among various Protestant groups, concluding that, for mainline Protestantism, there exists a harmonious ambivalence in the relationship. He also deals with Freemasonry relations with Roman Catholicism, Judaism, and the black community. He shows how the principal arguments and objections of religious groups against the fraternity are without foundation since the majority of the arguments are based upon the misconception of Freemasonry as a religion--which it is not--rather than as a fraternity--which it is."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799718009338593280,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:27:22.279Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":13083,"label":"Unknown"},{"value":"Dissertation","hits":46,"label":"Dissertation"},{"value":"Thesis","hits":9,"label":"Thesis"},{"value":"D.Min.
