It focuses upon the unique influence of Korean han as becoming an impediment for development transforming lay leadership in the Korean-American churches. Han-ridden laity have suffered from the negative symptoms of han such as anger, vengefulness, resentfulness, helplessness, anxiety, psychoenurosis, and so on. Because of a negative effect of han, the immigrant churches have difficulties in mobilizing the human resources in terms of lay ministry. It is necessary to overcome the broken relationship with the Triune God and neighbors. This dissertation offers a particular way of lay leadership development by renewing the broken relationship. The essential identity of this dissertation is formed by the word 'intermediary leader.' Even though he/she was a han-ridden person, an intermediary leader takes care of his/her followers as the wounded healer. This dissertation attempts to critically reflect upon the application of H. R. Niebuhr's thought of 'responsible being' and Simon Weil's idea of 'intermediary.' This project investigates what Korean han is and what the influences of han are. For transforming the influences of han into the power of lay leadership, it suggests han-poori ministry as transforming lay ministry. Han-poori ministry is designed for releasing han-ridden laity from the bondage of han. It is developed in several components such as 'awakening step,' 'disentanglement step,' and 'engagement step.' Through these steps, the han-ridden laity are enabled to be intermediary lay leaders. The project is evaluted by three methods: the use of a spiritual discipleship inventory, by means of a personal assertiveness inventory, and asking about using spiritual gifts in the ministry."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Candler School of Theology"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["1e360310-aec8-4e88-a19a-00b4db71ef4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791134880324648960,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:42:12.585Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:54:53Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:46:45Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"1969b05b-106e-4fe9-a83a-39fcbf1bb47e","accessControl_ssim":["42c6afdb-d3bb-45ba-81ed-2d2f1666dbdd"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Developing lay ministry through small groups in the Seventh-day Adventist Churches in Korea"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:54:52Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:52:33Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["48673401-f603-4aac-95f0-3e99ce081e04"],"hasLease_ssim":["393f16cb-964b-4e36-ba96-0fa7872f78b8"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Andrews University"],"advisor_tesim":["Ricardo Norton"],"year_tesim":["2000"],"location_tesim":["Korea"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Gil Ho Choi"],"publisher_tesim":["Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary of Andrews University"],"subject_tesim":["Small groups","Seventh-Day Adventists","Lay Church work"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This study deals with a program designed for lay ministry through small groups. Schwarz reportedly conducted the most comprehensive church growth study ever with a scope that was drawn from more than one thousand churches in thirty-two countries on all five continents. The research results confirm that healthy churches are growing churches. To understand this new concept of church growth, the objectives of this thesis are: (1) to study the concept of natural church development; (2) to search for the biblical and theological basis of this concept; (3) to develop a mature concept that incorporates responses from some Christian leaders; (4) to discuss the major points of each quality characteristic; and (5) to create a relevant training program for natural church development. This product will be basically divided into two main parts: in part one, we will first study the history, concepts and principles of church growth, as well as church health. We will then turn to study the new concept of natural church development as developed by Christian Schwarz. In part two, we will concentrate on the eight quality characteristics that are the essences of natural church development. Other than these two main parts, in the appendix A and B, we will attempt to create a relevant training program for healthy church development, including a student's guide and a teacher's guide. Since the materials, which related organizations can provide, are only for the advanced level, this project is to provide practical means for leaders to use in creating a healthy-growing atmosphere that promotes the concept of natural church development in their local church."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Western Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["910240dd-6bfb-49cb-ab06-1b8de036aac8"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132883585335296,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:10:28.346Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:54:29Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:50:13Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"a371c32c-331c-4b97-8d2e-f74426b0f1fc","accessControl_ssim":["a32af673-3a43-42f8-9b65-260caecd4e22"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Transforming conflict into community: the church transformation project"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:54:29Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:53:12Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["5504d96f-c1a8-497e-9d36-79ca03511065"],"hasLease_ssim":["9bbc9f37-4ee9-45f4-8089-6dd8a6890954"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Trinity Evangelical Divinity School"],"advisor_tesim":["David L Larsen"],"year_tesim":["2000"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Ronald E Cheadle"],"publisher_tesim":["Trinity Evangelical Divinity School of Trinity International University"],"subject_tesim":["Conflict management"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Church staff conflict is transformed through a process that encourages self-differentiation among the leadership. This project set forth an effective pastoral couseling method to address and decrease depressive symptoms. African-American women's spirituality, and Womanist theology provided the framework for this process. Biblical stories and cognitive/behavioral techniques, integrated with intentionally 'joining' the client, informed the pastoral counseling sessions. Research involved Aaron Beck's Depression inventory as a pre- and post-indicator of depressive symptoms, with five women participating in ifive counseling sessions. In all cases the post test showed that depressive symptoms decreased, and the women made progress in giving voice to their experiences through the pastoral counseling process."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791129021588701184,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:09:05.258Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:54:16Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:35:53Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"58a54de2-6c49-48b2-902f-f87566d70fed","accessControl_ssim":["a12a9bf0-ab1c-4574-86cc-8a2830e0eb25"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The roles and perspectives of women's ministries in North American Chinese churches: case study of Evangelical Formosan Church in North America"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:54:16Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:43:56Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["ca140b31-f04d-4e4d-bee9-73a59b07739f"],"hasLease_ssim":["c7b1b22b-cad2-4db6-9b6b-0eec9593f821"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Logos Evangelical Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Isaac Chen"],"year_tesim":["2000"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["May C Chang"],"publisher_tesim":["Logos Evangelical Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Clergy","Women clergy","Evangelical Formosan Church","Evangelical Formosan Church--Women"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The study seeks to affirm women's rightful roles in Chinese Christian ministry. The author examines the biblical teachings and female characters in the scriptures to establish the theology that God intended women to be full and equal partners to their male counterparts. A case study was conducted on Evangelical Formosan Church with its 34 local churches in North America. The finding reveals that great disparity exists between ideology and reality. The former proclaims equality and the latter succumbs to the patriarchal tradition. The female gender must climb a long and uphill path before attaining their God-given stature.
