The need for this new church is great, as will be illustrated in Chapter 1. Chapter 2 of this project will show the biblical rationale for the need to reach out to substance abusers. This project will also describe, in Chapter 3, the history of one type of church-the Set Free Church-which has been successful in reaching out to substance abusers to help them overcome the addiction cycle. A plan will be formed with a core group and a set of partners to help grow this new church. Much of this is due to a combination of an inward focus and allowing pragmatism to supersede the biblical practice of intercessory prayer and evangelism. The purpose of this Doctor of Ministry Project was to increase the level of evangelistic participation of a select group from East Boulder Baptist Church after an extended focus on intercessory prayer. The results would help to establish better, cooperative relationships between the two peoples and to help them work for the Lord together. Trying to overcome the language barrier through teaching American Christians how to praise in Korean would show the possibility of different ethnic churches working together in harmony. With the assumption that knowledge and understanding of another's experiences generally diminishes negative feelings and prejudices, this project employed the Scale of Ethnocultural Empathy (SEE) created by Dr. Yu-Wei Wang as a pre- and post-test. Tests measured participants' attitudes toward people of different ethnic origin and cultures than their own.
