The author addresses how ministry leaders pursue spiritual formation when living in the context of wilderness experiences. The research follows a qualitative method of the semi-structured interview and is focused on women in leadership. A herald is one commissioned and sent by another to speak his message in his behalf to a recipient. A divine herald is one commissioned and sent by a deity to speak a divine message to the people of the deity's choosing. Thus, a preacher is one who comes to understand the text of Scripture, and therefore grasps the message of God, and is then commissioned and sent to speak his message to God's people. His competence and success is dependent on his faithfulness to accomplish this duty. Postmodernism may be a new culture, but the nature of preaching has not changed. Ten principles are identified for cultivating the preacher's spiritual health so they are prepared to preach. Sixteen principles are identified for sculpting the preacher's message to manage conflict from the pulpit. In compliance with that commission, passion and action are the two sides of the coin for Christians. Passion is the heat for evangelism, while action is the light for evangelism. However, though Christians in Hong Kong have passion for evangelism, the church has no significant growth. A 65-question research tool was sent to 100 pastors and church leaders in churches of different sizes and ages. Bible application is prescriptive. What happens when the preacher faces a multiethnic audience? How can the preacher communicate the truth of scripture, if the audience doesn't share the common characteristics that facilitate communication and understanding? The tension stems from the fact that those who immigrate consequently face cultural changes. With such tension come the maladies that are often, if not always, psychological in nature. Children of immigrants are caught between cultures and have to make a choice to either immerse in their adopted culture or keep their traditional, ancestral culture. Pastor as peacemaker is to be a program-centered project consisting of twelve written lectures intended for a one unit (12 hour) course to be taught as an interim course at a reformed seminary (e.g., a weeklong course, four days three hours per day). Research was three-fold: anaylsis of a biblical and theological doctrine of reconciliation, contemporary Alternative Dispute Resolution(ADR) theory and methods, and by way of student evaluation. The result was an effective theology and method of training pastors to be peacemakers in their churches. Lack of basic HIV/AIDS knowledge, risky behavior, religious conservatism, stigma, fear of status being exposed to other community members, and socioeconomic issues are some factors that contribute to the spread of HIV/AIDS within African-American populations. African Americans have close ties to the church, but the African American churches, until recently, have been slow to address HIV prevention. Several successful churches and faith based/public health collaborations were identified, with some limitations within these programs discussed, but too many are doing nothing. This study examines the community churches and reviews the empirical literature on faith-based HIV prevention programs among African American populations.
