The author conducted a project on the effect of a 12-week cognitive behavioral intervention on Seventh-day Adventist Church members that helps them properly and biblically discern God's communication with them in a way that increases their intimacy with God and avoids the extremes of hearing God's voice in other voices or not hearing from God at all. A mixed methods approach was used and the results showed a greater level of attachment to God was achieved. Qualitative feedback suggested participants believed they were better able to discern communication from God after completing the intervention."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Denver Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["e7af129f-938f-4821-9463-dc6ded35d563"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791133851485995008,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:25:51.408Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T17:58:07Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:22:01Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"7a1f1f7d-410c-4f63-bd09-81b3e55b2859","accessControl_ssim":["4688f0e5-7826-42c4-9b33-6a880a439c28"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Finding unity in diversity the use of appreciative inquiry to cultivate common ground among leaders in a multi-congregational Chinese church in Canada"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T17:58:06Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:44:07Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["365d3d87-0b22-401c-b524-38da18f7684a"],"hasLease_ssim":["0a2810ec-eee6-46c9-9ec6-a90b63ce3aa5"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Tyndale University"],"advisor_tesim":["Brian Craig"],"year_tesim":["2017"],"location_tesim":["Canada","Ontario--Toronto"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Josephine Suk Chow"],"publisher_tesim":["Tyndale Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Leadership--Religious aspects--Christianity","Appreciative inquiry","Christianity and culture","Chinese","Christians","Religion"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["A large Chinese church in Toronto with multiple congregations speaking different languages used an Appreciative Inquiry to engage leaders to identify commonalities among themselves and to discover their church DNA through interviews, practice of listening, use of storytelling and conversations. 'Resilience: Extending Beyond Self' provides a unique theory which illustrates processes in response to adoption-related parenting challenges. The core category that emerged from the research was 'seeking connection.' Two other categories were also raised: 'turning it over to God' and 'seeking new perspectives.' These three areas represent protective factors which increase the likelihood of desirable outcomes in high-stress parenting situations.
