The exploration includes a contextual analysis, literature review, biblical reflection, and the author’s personal reflection on lived experiences that led to a servant-leader philosophy of Christian leadership. The analysis informed the design and implementation of a field research project: Training Ministry Leaders Towards Supportive Psychotherapy Referrals to Tyndale Wellness Centre. The project addressed an identified need to help Christian ministry leaders learn how to support their members with mental health problems and refer them for psychotherapy. A training program was developed and piloted with nine ministry leaders and the outcomes analyzed. Findings indicated an overall increase in participants’ understanding of mental health, the importance of self-care, the nature of spiritually integrated psychotherapy and how to make supportive referrals. A recurrent theme in the research analysis was participants’ concern about clergy mental health as much as that of their members. It describes how I changed from an agnostic to a Christian and from a worldly leader to a servant leader. To do so, it combines three documents written during my DMin: my Leadership Narrative, my Philosophy of Christian Leadership, and my Project Report. Each of these tells part of the story of my growth. During my studies, my skills as a marketplace missionary, coaching mentor, business consultant, and leadership instructor developed a great deal, which gave me the confidence and courage I needed to introduce a new paradigm of Christian development to my Korean Canadian community. To achieve this purpose, I studied resilience and began my research project, which sought to answer the question, “Can I design a process that will help Korean leaders develop their resilience?” The Project Report describes how I tried to do so. Six executive leaders at three Korean non-profit organizations in Toronto participated in the project. Case Study Research was my primary methodology, which allowed me to discover each individual participant’s experiences as they went through the resilience training. Both qualitative and quantitative analysis were used to determine the findings, outcomes, and interpretations of this project. To help address these concerns, a leadership retreat was designed and implemented that used Appreciative Inquiry (AI) as a process to help the leadership team develop a clear vision for outreach to the community of Oakville. There were seven leaders who participated, and the outcomes of the retreat were analyzed. The project was aimed at facilitating the development of leadership team vision for the residents living in this community. Using AI processes, the leadership team looked at the vision for the Oakville community, developed a vision statement and committed to designing ways to serve the community needs. A three-phase process was required to train the small group. The first phase involved allowing a few young adults to discuss the implication of an assigned Bible passage through the inductive Bible study method. The second phase involved training them to preach; the third phase allowed them to preach. For this portfolio, only the first phase was examined. The participants’ involvement included choosing four Bible passages to develop into four sermons. This portfolio has V chapters. Chapter I is the introduction, which gives a general overview of the portfolio while chapter II focuses on the researcher’s personal journey and ministry context. Chapter III is about the author’s philosophy of leadership, which governed and guided his ministry practice; chapter IV examines the field research; and chapter V is the conclusion and implication.The data collection methods used for this research were reflective journaling, participant observation and a survey. The project's participants were the Wardens (who in collaboration with the priest make up the leadership team) within the Parish of Fenelon Falls and Coboconk that consist of St. James (SJ) and Christ Church (CC) Anglican churches. This research portfolio explores how spiritual formation can be developed through practices and ways in which a Christian leader can embrace its spiritual richness. The research portfolio utilized interviews, prayer journals alongside Morning and Evening Prayer as an assessment tool. Additionally, the methods used were qualitative research and ethnographic observation that linked spiritual formation with liturgical practices.  This research portfolio includes key formational experiences, a philosophy of leadership, as well as a research project. The data and information gathered from this research, highlighted how Christian leaders within the Parish of SJ and CC through self-awareness and authenticity, recognized the value and appreciation for the Anglican liturgy. Simultaneously, leaders within these two congregations deepened their spiritual life. This portfolio is composed of three major parts: a Personal Narrative and Ministry Context (Chapter 2), a Philosophy of Christian Leadership (Chapter 3), and a Field Ministry Project (Chapter 4). In Chapter 2, the author uses a narrative approach to describe how becoming a Christian not only profoundly changed his worldview and values but also focused his leadership philosophy from being power-based to service-based. In Chapter 3, through a literature review, the author elaborates on what servant leadership really means and argues that it should be a distinguishing feature of Christian leaders. In Chapter 4, the author explores whether or not the hands-on inquiry learning of the BELLS model in a missional Chinese church community context increased both participants’ missional awareness and the church’s willingness to reach people with the gospel in a culturally appropriate way. This exploration was conducted through a series of in-person and online gatherings, interviews, and weekly practices of BELLS in a missional community format. The author uses the BELLS model, the missional community strategies, and his own ecclesiology, missiology, and Christian leadership philosophy to guide the entire research project. Qualitative research data was collected and analyzed through interviews with seven participants, weekly DNA (Discipleship, Nurture, Accountability) Forms, and the author’s own participatory observations during in-person gatherings and online discussions. The results of the research project indicated that the practice of the BELLS model helped increase most of the participants’ missional awareness and passion for evangelizing their Chinese compatriots. The need for an indigenous approach to leadership training contextualized to the Cameroonian African context, in contrast to the current adopted Western model was identified. This project developed a model for leadership training to prepare ministers for service in the rapidly growing JCM church. To reach this understanding, a participatory action research process incorporating qualitative data-collecting instruments was employed, interviewing and surveying of Ministerial Academic (MINACA) students and JCM stakeholders. A focus group of 8 participants was constituted, 10 MINACA former students and 25 current students were interviewed. Sixty questionnaires were administered to participants. We discovered that trainers must not only be qualified but must be conversant with the sociocultural realities of where training is taking place. Leadership training must be hands on. Approximately one-third of Christians who suffer from Substance Use Disorder demonstrate spiritual struggle as evidenced by anger toward their concept of God. Ninety-seven Midwestern Substance Use Disorder (SUD) patients receiving in-patient treatment participated in a study to determine the effectiveness of a freewill theodicy intervention on spiritual struggle. Patients scoring in the highest one-third in spiritual struggle on the Anger Towards God Scale (ATGS-9) were offered an intervention based on education of freewill theodicy, consisting of 5 1/2 hour group sessions and a reading of Randy Alcorn's, If God is Good, Why Do We Hurt? The project tested the hypothesis that a six-class emphasis on EI followed by four weeks of journaling exercises would increase EI levels in students preparing for ministry. In addition, the researcher established the link between wisdom in the book of Proverbs and its’ connection with EI. The researcher used an EI inventory, developed by Richard Boyatzis and Daniel Goleman (ESCI-U), designed for the university setting. Five categories are assessed by the ESCI-U: Self-Awareness, Self-Management, Social Awareness, Relationship Management, and Cognitive Competencies. There are twelve competencies organized into four clusters. Self-Awareness is the first cluster area, and the competency measured is Emotional Self-Awareness. The second cluster is Self-Management. In this cluster, there are four competencies: Achievement Orientation, Adaptability, Emotional Self-Control, and Positive Outlook. In the third cluster, Social Awareness, Empathy, and Organizational Awareness competencies are assessed. Finally, the fourth cluster area includes five competencies: Conflict Management, Coach and Mentor, Influence, Inspirational Leadership, and Teamwork. Following the presentation of the class material, the students engaged in four weeks of practicing The Daily Examen and journaling. After the four weeks of reflection, the students retook the EI inventory. The beginning and ending scores were compared. The project successfully improved EI levels because each student showed an increase in at least three of the twelve competencies, according to the ECSI-U inventory. A central principle that emerged was the need to shift our ministry perspective from doing things to people to doing things with people. The framework developed as a result of this research included eight key principle and four key components: Learn, Engage, Assess and Participate (LEAP).Hospitality is about welcoming others and making them feel at home. As someone who came to Canada over 30 years ago as an international student, I am sensitive to the needs of newcomers and refugees and the role that congregants could play in creating welcoming and inclusive spaces for them. I am also a firm believer that leadership is influence and that, through cross-cultural transformational leadership, we could create an environment where congregants would be motivated to welcome well.This research demonstrated that there is value in meeting the physical needs of newcomers and refugees. However, effective engagement with the migrants and displaced needs to go beyond food, housing, and education.
