Uganda has suffered a lot under the leadership of Idi Amin and Milton Obote. The country has gone through political, social, economic, and religious changes. These changes have posed many challenges to the church in my context, the Anglican church of Uganda. It is clear that there is a need to engage lay Christians in response to these spiritual and pastoral challenges in our country and church, specifically in the Mukono Cathedral. The laity should not be engaged in church ministry to help the clergy, but to do the ministry because it belongs to them. In addition, the laity are gifted greatly, but they are not used enough.Does it mean that the laity are taking away the work of the ordained? Surely not, because this ministry belongs to the laity before it belongs to the ordained as discussed in this paper. This paper also discusses the biblical mandate to equip all the people for God's ministry. Paul discusses the gifts which were given to the church for the purpose of equipping the saints (cf. Ephesians 4:11-12). By equipping the saints in this context the laity, we are strengthening the church which is the body of Christ.Jesus Christ gave us an example of how important equipping is. He identified a few men, and then trained and taught them for the ministry. His methods are worth taking. This paper gives us a case study of a leadership training done in Mukono to prepare the ordained to equip the laity. All the recommendations indicate that there is a need to involve the laity in God's ministry. In response to this problem, the researcher studied the use of oral training as a method to train leaders. This included the role of the African oral tradition, the biblical oral history, and the goal of making disciples through biblical education. In order to understand discipleship; the knowledge, character, and ministry life of the students was closely evaluated and they grew significantly in each of these areas. The data sources included exams, surveys, and interviews. A training manual for pastors and elders of DCU Kampala cluster of churches was developed following an investigation of Scripture and a literature review on pertinent subjects. Contextualization was attempted by integrating Ugandan stories, illustrations, case studies, examples, words, figures of speech, and cultural values and norms into the training materials and the implementation process, without compromising the precedence of Scripture. Lead pastors were challenged to design and implement a 52-week program for transforming their congregations and to do so under the mentorship of the author for the first six months. Questionnaires were used to evaluate the training materials and mentoring period. Results show that the trainees acquired valuable knowledge and skills, were motivated and challenged, and, in some cases, felt that they were given a fresh lease of life. Examples abound in the Old Testament where God's people and messengers are exhorted to declare tot he nations with joyful song and testimony what the Lord God Almighty has done. In the New Testament, the angels who brought the Good News to the shepherds, the Lord Jesus Christ himself and the apostles furnish practical illustrations of joyful exuberance in proclaiming the gospel. But there seems to be a dearth of recipients and custodians of the Good News who are eager to go out and share the gospel with joyful passion powered by the joy of the Lord. This project embarked on recruiting and motivationally training believers from churches in USA to become confident and joyful participant sharers of the Good News. The study concludes that the Mbarara Diocese's Eucharistic Centers' program does not accord with the ecclesiology of the small-community movement.  It contributes to the basic ecclesial community goals of the diocese by clarifying the theological and pastoral nature of the small-community movement as applied to Mbarara.  It suggests key issues which need to be dealt with in formulating a viable small-community program for the diocese, notably those related to the need for in-depth reflection about how current parish structures and leadership models should be modified to accommodate a BEC program. In Africa, where oral tradition, communalism, illiteracy, and poverty prevail, it is imperative that the church make use of the media seriously in its task of evangelism.  Uganda is discussed as a model for such an evangelism project through the broadcast media.
