The extension of adolescence has received much attention, and there are indicators delayed development of adolescents significantly affects society in a number of ways: families, economies, educational institutions, and local churches. Data was collected through surveys and interviews with emerging adults. The project was organized around the three major tasks of adulthood: establishing autonomy, developing community, discovering vocation. The hypothesis was that if the students learn how to listen with care to the felt needs of the young women, they will develop deeper helping relationships. Relationships that emerge from genuine care and understanding are foundational and will enable the girls to feel understood and cared for. Learning occurred at different levels. Basic and necessary listening and caring skills were taught and well received. The project leader's conviction of the importance of teaching and practicing the skills was affirmed. The seminar included instructional content to guide assigned parent-adolescent interactions and attachment experiences.  A sample of 23 participants representing 18 family units attended six sessions over 11 weeks.  The Stereotypes of Adolescence Scale (Buchanan \u0026 Holmbeck, 1998) was administered. Results showed statistically significant change in pre- and posttest scores for 7 of 10 subscales. A selected group of parents and teenagers participated in an eight-week project involving listening, talking, decision making, and conflict resolution. Willingness of parents to make a change in the way they approached communication relieves some of the anxiety that accompanies many types of parent-teen innteractions.  Among the elements of improved communication are time involvement, genuineness, and unconditional love. Three communication skills were covered in six weekly training sessions.  Those skills were verbal, nonverbal, and listening.  Evaluation of the experimental group was performed by means of descriptive survey methodology, simple statistical analysis, and critical pastoral reflection. Statistically significant improvement of the entire experimental population was not observed, although the parent participants separately did demonstrate measurable improvement. The hypotheses: 1) adolescent boys have a vague understanding of what they are to accomplish in adolescence; 2) father/father figure interaction with an adolescent boy will enhance a boy's male sex-role identity; 3) teaching the developmental tasks will clarify the boy's understanding of what they are to accomplish; 4) public recognition as 'young men' will solidify their purpose in life. Small group teaching and interaction were combined with father-to-son teaching.  The project was evaluated descriptively, theologically, and by objective tests.  A Christian rite of passage was administered.  Hypothesis one was not validated, two was inconclusive, three and four were validated.
