As the hands of time wind down, this small denomination faces a severe shortage of pastors in the next decade. Two primary instruments are used to assess the potential for a crisis and consider possible solutions. Subjects addressed are calling to pastoral ministry, and competence/training for pastoral ministry. A literature review on the subject of leadership development is offered. To explore the role of denominations and discipleship, this thesis analyzes the relationship between traditional and contemporary forms of discipleship and denominational vitality. Specifically, it examines the role of the Advent Christian denomination in the lives of a group of worshippers at Northside Community Church. Using adult learning theory and social constructivism, this study reveals how one group of believers has constructed their organizational identities within the Advent Christian denomination and how relationships with other disciples who proclaim to follow Jesus Christ impact their system of beliefs.
