Some people who receive healing for emotional hurts through inner healing prayer relapse into past wounding behaviors. The effort relapse is first on the one who relapses. The second effect is on the healing community, especially the people in healing ministry who pray with them. He concludes that functional substitutes are biblical and should be used to help the converts avoid syncretism.  The author did primary research into the beliefs and practices of the Dyaks in West Kalimantan, Indonesia.  He developed a manual of functional substitutes for use by rice farmers.
