From a Christian perspective, a critical reading of the financial meltdown in the year 2008-from Pope Benedict VI, Archbishop Rowan Williams and Reverend Stephen Green, to name a few-pointed to a dichotomizing mindset underlying a lack of consistency in ethical behavior among individuals and corporates which precipitated this economic catastrophe in the first place. Against this backdrop, the overall objective of this thesis-project was to develop a template that would form the basis for a three-credit course to equip Ministers of the Word in their Ministry towards Corporate or Business Professionals. The tenets of capitalist economics as practiced in the marketplace are typically accepted as normative for all. This thesis-project presents a viable alternative business model for doing good work that focuses on the system of work. It shows how spiritual transformation is necessary to escape from the psychological influences of cognitive dissonance and self-justification. It provides data that show business people are open to being transformed. Part of the examination deals with how biblical teaching interacts with economic theory. The biblical themes of creation, the covenants, and the community of God are analyzed with respect to biblical principles. The author researched the work ethic of the clergy of the West Virginia Conference of the United Methodist Church. The author presented findings to clergy groups around the conference of how the founders and the theology of the church have informed that work ethic. The presentation included discussion of the Protestant work ethic, the Spirit of Capitalism, and the elements of play and creativity.
