Pastors who are responsive to these approaches are often soon faced with a set of fundamental questions, such as these: How much and what type of counseling should the pastor provide? Should it be limited to support, to pastoral care? Might it include teaching as well as support? Under what circumstances might it involve counseling in the more formal sense of the term, or, even more intensively for the adequately prepared pastor, therapy? When might any of these be better carried out in a group setting, as opposed to one on one? Moreover, implicitly if not out in the open, there are questions of the church’s involvement in the ministry of counseling: Is it a conscious mission of the particular congregation to provide its pastor to persons or groups as a counselor? Is it appropriate for its pastor to be devoting significant amounts of time to such a ministry? Is the church setting even a proper place for counseling–or, more intensively, therapy–to be conducted? First, the project director researched soul care ministry and prepared an annotated bibliography and report on essential soul care skills. Second, to equip selected parents at FBC with essential soul care skills a curriculum was developed. Third, through seven sessions, selected parents at FBC were equipped to provide soul care for their children. Different methods of  instruction were utilized in the equipping sessions including lectures, videos, game-based learning, peer-to-peer and small group activities, along with case studies. The participants were evaluated in the cognitive, psychomotor, and affective domains of learning. I accomplished this based on my own experiences of healing prayer and counseling and the research I did. The resource was then evaluated by a panel of ten experienced healing experts to determine how well the resource met its stated nine goals. With no curriculum or tools already in place to train and equip church members for this ministry, Stephen Ministry was suggested. To consider the place of Stephen Ministry in the context of Granada, a review of Stephen Ministry in relation to other potential training systems was conducted to shed light on its strengths and weaknesses. The studies served to confirm the choice of Stephen Ministry as the best system for Granada to use. The need for this new church is great, as will be illustrated in Chapter 1. Chapter 2 of this project will show the biblical rationale for the need to reach out to substance abusers. This project will also describe, in Chapter 3, the history of one type of church-the Set Free Church-which has been successful in reaching out to substance abusers to help them overcome the addiction cycle. A plan will be formed with a core group and a set of partners to help grow this new church. The thesis asks if it makes any difference to the work of the psychotherapists that they have a religious foundation. The results demonstrated a distrust of expressing an overt Catholic identity, as well as highlighting Northern Ireland to be more post-modern in its culture as it is post-conflict. The project thesis answered the question in the affirmative: 'Restorative Justice's Family Group Conferencing is a practice of shalom.' The project was to test the thesis. This was done in two ways: (1) by comparing the author's study of shalom with Family Group Conferencing, and (2) by a theological committee of shalom experts' evaluation of Family Group Conferencing. The shalom experts represented theologians from world religions where shalom is an important concept: Islam, Judaism, and Christianity. Both the author's study and the theological committee's evaluation of Restorative Justice's Family Group Conferencing agreed that Family Group Conferencing is a practice of shalom. The goals of this project were:  (1) to lead a selected group to understand the grief process; (2) to assist the selected group to enhance their counseling skills in the grief process; and (3) to enable the selected group to develop a one-year plan to counsel persons in grief.  The project methodology included lectures, videotapes and audiotapes, case studies with role-plays, varied visual learning experiences, and cognitive knowledge tested by group game competition.  All of the preceding procedures and techniques occurred during the eight training sessions. The research design procedure follows the nonrandomized control-group pretest-posttest design delineated from the Handbook in research and evaluation.  The research results indicated that there was no difference between the two groups concerning immediate feelings about post-high school plans (state anxiety).
