The project then analyzes the apostle Paul's leadership style in order to formulate a model of early church leadership. Practical examples of leadership are drawn from the parish using a project funded by the Lilly Foundation to illustrate leadership issues in the local congregation. The author shows from the earliest history of the Adopting Act of 1729 to the present day in the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA) that scruples or reservations with the Confession and Catechisms of Westminster have been permitted. It has always been the prerogative of Presbytery to listen to a candidate and decide whether his exceptions or reservations strike at the vitals of the system of doctrine. The PCA, in its current discussion of subscription, should stay on course with the historical purpose and practice of sincerely receiving and adopting the Westminster Standards as containing the system of doctrine taught in Holy Scripture."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Covenant Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["e57e5218-1d34-47f5-b1a5-b84efbc9e61f"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131427750805504,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:47:19.954Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T01:05:46Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:34:50Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"5c467b03-6b01-4333-af7f-8d2deb208118","accessControl_ssim":["866ee76a-949a-4885-9ce1-5ca556067a81"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Developing, teaching, and evaluating an introduction to contemporary statements of faith for laity of First Christian Church of Irving, Tex"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T01:05:45Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:50:52Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["5b814174-00a0-40bc-91a4-8a97d9163b2d"],"hasLease_ssim":["bf8a31fe-a845-4f1b-9eda-20c82d01209c"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Perkins School of Theology"],"advisor_tesim":["John Deschner"],"year_tesim":["1990"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Terry P White"],"publisher_tesim":["Perkins School of Theology Southern Methodist University"],"subject_tesim":["Creeds","Knowles, Malcolm S","Christian education of adults","Process theology","First Christian Church (Irving, Tex)"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The purpose of this dissertation is: to present a rationale for a course on creeds for members of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ); to review and evaluate the course, 'Affirming Our Faith Today;' and to offer possibilities for future direction for lay theological education.
