One consists of a detailed and systematic review of the content of twelve central courses currently being taught at the Canada Institute of Linguistics as part of a program of training for the role of 'Translation Specialist.' The content of each of these courses is mapped to a set of competencies expected of those who are to serve in this role. The other component consists of an analysis of survey results in which translation specialists, their supervisors and mother-tongue translators reflect on actual field performance and the effectiveness of prefield training in preparation for fieldwork. The Project Director designed curriculum to demonstrate this idea, and tested it on a group of six Christian artists in Marin County, California. The project followed the activities and progress of the group, both in their production of art and in their spiritual development. The participating artists provided feedback through instruments employed by the director to measure their development and how that development grew out of their collaborative art. Dr. Mike Edens and an international missionary evaluated the validity of the research. Dr. Sonia Carrington provided expert advice and a critique of the curriculum and the project director's increased knowledge of curriculum design. Interviews of mission agency staff clarified expectations for applicants. Literature from relevant disciplines provided theoretical input. A survey of missionaries and pastors informed cultural and practical issues, validated a missionary competency profile and confirmed limitations of the classroom. The project incited improvements and influenced overall program review at Baptist Bible
