This paper will examine the challenges the church currently faces in reaching out to Hindu background believers (HBBs) and suggest means through which the church can improve its efforts at evangelization, by taking greater note of the Hindu religious milieu and exercising greater cultural sensitivity. It will examine how the problem of differing social norms that have emerged between Hindus and Christians can be overcome and how certain tenets of Hinduism can be adopted as a way of accurately conveying the gospel while others will have to be revised or discarded for evangelism to be effective. The wider context of evangelism in Malabar is studied through a literature review, visits to the area and interviews with those who are in active ministry in Malabar. The author used a questionnaire to gain information from HBBs in Malabar. This study identifies the reasons for Hindus' resistance to the gospel and highlights the importance of discipling HBBs to become pivotal forces for change in the Hindu community."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132124649095168,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:58:24.567Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T16:22:01Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:49:23Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"87804863-1866-4d23-80b2-df2fa53d78c2","accessControl_ssim":["02a0a0c7-329d-4dd7-8c25-6722016bb844"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Effective cooperation between modality and sodality structure in north India: a case study of Bharat Susamachar Samiti, New Theological College and Christian Evangelistic Assemblies in historical perspective"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T16:22:00Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:07:18Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["e14ef44d-efee-457a-b44e-896e6404c1ac"],"hasLease_ssim":["7e577d42-09bc-4594-afa7-778eef42a8fd"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Timothy C Tennent"],"year_tesim":["2011"],"location_tesim":["India"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["George K Chavanikamannil"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Christian Evangelistic Assemblies (India)","New Theological College (Dehra Dun, India)","Religious education--Philosophy","Missions--Social aspects","Evangelistic work","Home missions","Religious education","Bharat Susamachar Samiti (Organization : Dehra Dun, India)"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["India has always been a challenge to Christian missions. With 1.2 billion people who belong to 4,693 ethnic groups and speak more than 400 languages it still is home to the largest number of unreached people groups in the world. The greatest need that the Indian church faces in the 21st century is for large numbers of dedicated and well-trained servant-leaders to serve the existing congregations and to reach the remaining unreached people groups and languages with the gospel. It is widely recognized that the prevalent dominant paradigm of training has many weaknesses that are adversely affecting the health of the church. This study looks at the ministries of a modality and sodality (Christian Evangelistic Assemblies and Bharat Susamachar Samiti/New Theological College) that have been closely working together with some success for more than two decades in northern India to learn principles that might help to alleviate these weaknesses. At first we briefly look at the history of the church and theological education in India. Then we look at the way the modality and sodality have worked together. From these we have chosen six principles which we believe are keys in alleviating the weaknesses of the prevalent existing paradigm of theological education/Christian leadership training."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131559584071680,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:49:25.680Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T15:59:42Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:57:08Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"53535e11-de97-4669-bd4b-ae02682fd9a1","accessControl_ssim":["7269810b-50b9-4346-a29f-549b84ebe377"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["An ethnographic study of the relief ministries of the Oasis Chapel and missiological implications for relational missiology"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T15:59:41Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:34:13Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["7ddb42a1-ab60-49b3-9dca-92915106b725"],"hasLease_ssim":["184044c3-8cf2-4901-9fc1-42599697798c"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Western Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Enoch Wan"],"year_tesim":["2014"],"location_tesim":["Japan"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Siu Lun Law"],"publisher_tesim":["Western Seminary (Portland, OR)"],"subject_tesim":["Disaster relief","Home missions","Oasis Chapel (Minamisanriku, Japan)","Tohoku Earthquake and Tsunami (Japan : 2011)"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This study provides an ethnographic description of the relief ministries organized by the Oasis Chapel in Minamisanriku to determine their missiological implications for relational missiology. While we rejoice for this open door and the opportunity for the gospel, we also see the challenges in establishing the new believers in the biblical faith as wll as the development of leaders for the emerging churches. The challenge of developing leaders becomes more complex as many of them are oral learners. One of the ways to face the challenge is to use oral methods in training leaders. This thesis describs the opportunities and challenges in Bihar, India. It surveys mission history, particularly focused on the Bihar Reach-Out Network. It builds a biblical and theological foundation for consideration of orality. It also provides a thorough literature review on issues related to orality with special attention to mission thinking."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791129848646729728,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:22:14.003Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T15:04:04Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:24:14Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"d40b130a-cd65-4ce8-8485-7297a6a72f91","accessControl_ssim":["37f58cc9-e54a-4de4-91a6-78932975b980"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Assessing Geneva College's degree completion program (Community ministry major)"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T15:04:04Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:11:32Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["f2349164-5048-4055-bed3-7380079f2a93"],"hasLease_ssim":["8df73386-94a4-4157-83a3-95338d682013"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Westminster Seminary California"],"advisor_tesim":["Susan S Baker"],"year_tesim":["2009"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Mark E Porter"],"keyword_tesim":["Theological seminaries, Reformed"],"publisher_tesim":["Westminster Seminary California"],"subject_tesim":["Geneva College (Beaver Falls, Pa)","Theological seminaries","Home missions","African American seminarians"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project assessed the Community Ministry Major of Geneva College's Adult Degree Completion Program (DCP-CMN). Interviews described servant-leaders who exemplified the categories found in Jenning's and Stahl-Wert's book, The Serving Leader. The study concluded that, overall, the DCP-CMN program fulfilled Geneva College's Mission Statement. The researcher selected these two case studies because they demonstrated a determination to evangelize their communities with the gospel. This passion manifested into a desire to minister to more people through a new worship service. The research format was both qualitative and quantitative in nature as the researcher used quantitative surveys, open-ended questions, personal interviews, church campus visits, and archival data analysis to develop a deeper understanding of the planning process. This researcher believed two factors contributed to a successful launch of a new worship service: clear, consistent communication by leadership and unity in the leadership team. Research concluded this hypothesis was true. This researcher believes missionally-minded, evangelical churches often lead the way by breaking free of ineffective methods, reinventing the way ministry is done. The church must be willing to change or die."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["8322f611-a593-413a-8bcd-0011fba52dc7"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130105590841344,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:26:19.043Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":30,"label":"Unknown"},{"value":"D.Min.
