But with proper planning, respect, trust and integrity on the part of a church's pastors as well as elected leaders and members, experiencing ministry together does not have to produce dissonance and anxiety. Furthermore, as pastoral leadership moves through different transitional stages, conflict is blunted. People participated in two consecutive seven-week cycles of prayer partnerships. There was an education seminar at the beginning and an evaluation seminar at the conclusion of each cycle.  A pretest and a posttest were administered to participants and non-participants; an evaluation survey was administered to participants. Because Jesus demonstrated His bond with the disciples through footwashing and gave them instruction to wash each other's feet, reminding them of the connection they had in Christ and with each other for fulfilling Christ's mission, so Middle Pennsylvania congregations (a people whose ministry tradition is defined as a community through footwashing) who have come consciously or unconsciously to develop a secular understanding of District structure as Institution, are called to recover the identity of District Ministry as a network of partners communing with Christ and each other.
