It combines a research and materials model. Alexander Campbell's theological anthropology and soteriology are researched, and then that material is refashioned into a manual on spiritual formation based on the gospel ordinances. The project includes the recruitment of the elders and their training via retreat, support groups, and a caring ministry workshop.  Through this training the elders are: acquainted with a biblical understanding of eldership as a ministerial office along with providing two views (McGarvey and Errett) of eldership from the Disciple tradition; to train the elders in various areas of ministry; to provide opportunities for the elders in the ministry of the congregation; and to commission the elders in the ministry of their choice.  The project provides opportunities for prayer and reflection upon their role in the mission and ministry of the congregation.  Drawing upon this experience, the elders engaged in training others for this caring ministry. Based on the concepts that ministry is for reconciliation, and listening is a vital ministry, the project sought to train lay church members in the art of creative listening.  These trained listeners then called on other church members--especially the disaffected--in an attempt to achieve reconciliation.
