Working with inadequate resources in an environment of need, they often sacrifice the well-being of the employees and volunteers who staff the ministry.  Such ministries require a theological vision which encompasses the instrumental as well as terminal goals of the agency.  The biblical concept of shalom or holistic well-being provides such a rubric. The program assessed caregiver's stress reactions, gathered religious and spiritual resources, and used these resources for self-care.  Participants' beliefs, reactions to trauma work, and use of religion and humanistic spirituality to cope were evaluated by pre- and post-tests and audio-taped recordings of the group sessions.
