A six-week sermon series titled You Were Blessed to BLESS served as the central intervention, focusing on five relational outreach practices. Data were collected through pre- and post-series surveys measuring beliefs, motivations, and behaviors, followed by ten semi-structured interviews that explored how\r\nparticipants interpreted and practiced these changes within their everyday relationships. The findings demonstrate that preaching corresponded with measurable motivational shifts and emerging missional activation. Participants reported increased awareness of everyday relationships as opportunities for spiritual influence, a strengthened sense of personal responsibility for outreach, and a notable rise in confidence initiating spiritual conversations. These internal shifts corresponded with observable engagement, particularly in practices of prayer and service, while other practices developed more incrementally. Participants consistently described moving from passive agreement to intentional participation, engaging others through relational, everyday interactions rather than programmatic efforts. The study concludes that sustained, memorable, and practice-oriented preaching can cultivate progressive engagement in God's mission by aligning belief, motivation, and action. Rather than producing immediate or dramatic transformation, missional preaching forms believers over time who increasingly participate in God's redemptive work through the ordinary relationships of daily life."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["admin_set/default-default-approving","admin_set/default-default-depositing","admin_set/default-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Default Admin Set"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["dminadmin@tiu.edu"],"_version_":1866634789395628032,"timestamp":"2026-05-30T17:20:56.757Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2025-05-09T18:54:15Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2025-05-09T18:54:24Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"4d0105bf-9e73-4102-83db-b6e4ab094d7f","accessControl_ssim":["c52f73c7-64e9-4f4f-b064-85f58adb0624"],"hasRelatedMediaFragment_ssim":["dc627acd-bd01-468a-9eba-60cd1754f333"],"hasRelatedImage_ssim":["dc627acd-bd01-468a-9eba-60cd1754f333"],"depositor_ssim":["jgoodlet@fpclagrange.org"],"depositor_tesim":["jgoodlet@fpclagrange.org"],"title_tesim":["Teach A Child To Fish: How Adaptive Leadership Might Transform Local Church Mission"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2025-05-09T18:54:14Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2025-05-09T18:54:14Z","isPartOf_ssim":["admin_set/default"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["13e2789d-ff0a-43e4-949f-9530d9917921"],"hasLease_ssim":["59e36cf4-bef1-4fe9-940e-eee8657c37e1"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Pittsburgh Theological Seminary"],"year_tesim":["2025"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. A lack of space limits the number of student seats available, while tuition costs restrict access to families able to afford sky-high rates. Meanwhile, childcare teachers are paid low salaries for their services, and children living in poverty fall farther and farther behind. Such a challenge threatens not only a child’s livelihood, but also the congregation’s vision “that all may know God’s love.” This project will examine how the principles of adaptive leadership might reframe the congregation’s missiological understanding and practices via the work of education. Still, the current congregation shows no signs of giving up our corporate goal to be 'A House of Prayer to All Nations.' This portfolio reflects my evolution as pastor of this vital community and the church itself, especially during my time at Tyndale. As challenging as the ministry is in general, it takes on another dimension of difficulty when the congregation to whom we minister is gone. The question that loomed large over my pastorate was how I could continue ministering to people in such an event. COVID-19 left us searching for alternate ways to minister to congregational needs despite restrictions on interpersonal contact. We partly addressed this ministry through online services, but many members could not avail themselves of this resource, being unable to access computers or the internet. Government-enforced church closures complicated the issue, as did some individuals fearing the risk of exposure by physically attending the church when open. The threefold foci of this research concentrated on how best to preach to an absent congregation, encourage them in prayer, and maintain a sense of communal fellowship despite enforced separation. The research project documents how we addressed these problems through regular telephone and mail contact to alleviate the isolation members experienced. This outreach included the distribution of printed sermons and prayer requests. We reassured members they were loved and cared for while reminding them of the congregational unity and community of those sharing their struggles. The project had some success, constrained mainly by its eight-week duration. However, we learned valuable lessons and continue using the process we developed, ensuring regular contact without overlooking any of our members."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Tyndale University"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["602e7e7c-0b8b-4e09-af87-84c66ff49c48"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791133511044825089,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:20:26.738Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:32:35Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:36:25Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"a64c5931-519a-4b0a-8f75-43bcfe7ea54d","accessControl_ssim":["9e57c847-9700-470d-a441-6f468e41dc4e"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["A Doutrina da Trindade Orientando o Desenvolvimento Espiritual de Jovens em uma Sociedade Secularizada"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:32:33Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:57:40Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["51ec7f80-205d-4bf5-b006-8e80000242f7"],"hasLease_ssim":["b35ad7c5-4f31-480b-b2a8-a1efc6a7268d"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["J. Themodel works to encourage people to move Christ closer to the center of theirlives, where they can live and have their being in their “true selves,” as God’s willintends.Using this model of spiritual formation, a field research project wasdeveloped to help spiritually form the spiritual leaders of the OakridgePresbyterian Church congregation towards a greater unity in Christ. The field research component helpeddetermine how the congregation’s spiritual leaders had deepened their awarenessof the presence of God in daily life."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Tyndale University"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["602e7e7c-0b8b-4e09-af87-84c66ff49c48"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791133678917648384,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:23:06.833Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:09:09Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:12:42Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"bb1589ba-f40b-472e-9ea9-5af5bd57c52c","accessControl_ssim":["c29d8011-e799-49cd-8eef-0731a6b3ddba"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Place Forming Pastor"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:09:08Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:30:53Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["e0aa946a-29dd-43be-9e7a-80bf26b5eadc"],"hasLease_ssim":["7e3a1d6e-1dc0-440f-9be8-08b886385e32"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"discipline_tesim":["Christian Spirituality"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Christine Hong Ph.D.","Jacob Myers Ph.D."],"year_tesim":["2021"],"location_tesim":["United States"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. God speaks to people through the “liturgical language” of worship— the literal and figurative words used and the material signs and symbols of worship practices. Worshipers often respond by describing their experience in theological language (theology literally means “words about God”). Implementing the methodological approach of pastoral ethnography, this project sought to understand the relationship between the liturgical language of certain worship practices and the theology of worshipers at First Baptist of West Jefferson, NC. In particular, how do worshipers at First Baptist experience what they had previously described as the “blessing” of God’s presence and love through sermons with concurrent liturgical responses? The researcher utilized the speech-act theory of J. L. Austin’s work How to Do Things with Words as an interpretive tool of the performative nature of six sermons with concurrent liturgical responses. The performative impact of these sermons and responses was explored for six consecutive weeks in the Sunday morning worship service at First Baptist. Through data collected from weekly surveys and a handful of focus groups, participants revealed the performative nature of the sermons and concurrent liturgical responses, and how they experienced the blessing of God’s presence and love through the liturgical language of the sermons and concurrent practices. The project revealed important lessons about the performative nature of liturgical language, particularly how members of First Baptist experience the blessing of God’s love and presence through sermons and concurrent liturgical responses. The combined experiences of participating congregants and the participating preacher led to recommendations for how the preaching and worship ministries of the First Baptist Church of West Jefferson, NC can continue to be a source of the blessing of God’s presence and love in the lives of worshipers."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"related_url_tesim":["http://hdl.handle.net/10898/3726"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791126431232688128,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:27:54.903Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:06:33Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:19:39Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"f4ba49d0-15e5-49ce-b42c-e2a92b80430b","accessControl_ssim":["ca7c70e3-8385-4978-9da5-2506a58fb45e"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Our Lady of Lavang: A resource for upholding the dignity of Vietnamese women"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:06:32Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T05:07:16Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["2cc45d99-5c57-4e7d-b2f2-05f89694eedc"],"hasLease_ssim":["f1db2b2f-8ec6-4a6c-87c8-4949f87f60ab"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"discipline_tesim":["Spirituality"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Catholic Theological Union"],"advisor_tesim":["Edward Foley Ph.D."],"year_tesim":["2020"],"location_tesim":["Vietnam","Southeast","Asia"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. This cult has continued to grow and attract pilgrims each year. In their daily life, Vietnamese are interested to take part in Marian devotional practices. They have shown their special honor and veneration to Our Lady because she is considered as a powerful and effective figure who would take help and protection over those in need. Indeed, Vietnamese are taking the image of Mary and imagining her as a source of their strength and empowerment. In its earliest days, Vietnam was indeed a matriarchal society in which women got a high status. In the history of Vietnam, some women would play their important role as female political and military leaders. In the goddess worship ritual, women would become masters of the ceremony. We realized that women’s status was high in the ancient time, but it has been declined since the patriarchal ideology of Confucianism was introduced into the country. Since then, women were more disadvantaged when compared to men in all aspects of life. Present-day, women are still treated as second class citizens. Even though the national laws give equal rights to both sexes, the issue of gender inequality and violence against women still persist in Vietnam. In order to raise the status of women, we proposed a spirituality that may transform attitudes toward women. Also we highlighted some ways that may help to advance the role of women in the Church and society, especially as leaders."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Catholic Theological Union"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b51273d2-7ff5-4ecb-af24-64508c2367ad"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791129690274004992,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:19:42.967Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"D.Min.
