The project arises from the ministry challenges that many Chinese diaspora churches effectively provide theological teaching and communal belonging but often struggle to cultivate believers who embody a reproducible missional identity in everyday life. The project therefore investigates whether Christian coaching can support believers in integrating faith, identity, and mission within their daily contexts.\r\n\r\nGrounded in practical theology and missional discipleship theory, the research employed a participatory action research design and a mixed-methods approach. Six participants from a Chinese-background congregation in Melbourne participated in a three-week intervention consisting of six group Christian coaching sessions. A single-group pre- and post-test design measured perceived changes across three dimensions of missional discipleship: self-awareness in Christ, relational reproducing of discipleship, and radical devotion expressed through costly obedience. Quantitative self-awareness data were complemented by qualitative reflections and written semi-structured exit interviews.\r\n\r\nFindings indicate directional growth across all three dimensions of missional discipleship. Participants reported increased awareness of their identity as “beloved and send” in Christ, a reframing of disciple-making as relational and assessable within everyday relationships, and greater openness to faithful obedience within their cultural and vocational realities. Qualitative data further revealed how these shifts were experienced through relational engagement, vocational discernment, and reflection on cultural barriers to costly obedience.\r\nWhile limited by its small sample size and exploratory design the project suggests that short-term group Christian coaching can function as a formative environment that encourages believers to reinterpret their everyday lives as participation in God’s mission. The project contributes to practical theology by proposing Christian coaching as a contextually responsive approach to cultivating missional discipleship within Chinese Australian diaspora church contexts."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["admin_set/default-default-approving","admin_set/default-default-depositing","admin_set/default-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Default Admin Set"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["dminadmin@tiu.edu"],"_version_":1866642903595483136,"timestamp":"2026-05-30T19:29:55.060Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2026-05-29T20:29:33Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2026-05-29T20:29:34Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"f5004556-fe95-4bfc-ba8c-2d8cc76a9332","accessControl_ssim":["04140d7a-963c-449e-9345-3b12102e93f4"],"depositor_ssim":["dminadmin@tiu.edu"],"depositor_tesim":["dminadmin@tiu.edu"],"title_tesim":["Fostering Intercongregational Unity in a Chinese Immigrant Church Through Collaborative Missional Action"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2026-05-29T20:29:32Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2026-05-29T20:29:32Z","isPartOf_ssim":["admin_set/default"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["e9f78494-6ea1-48f3-9624-bb8434e74e1b"],"hasLease_ssim":["d758b32d-76de-4c82-bafd-a5b726913f39"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Trinity International University"],"year_tesim":["2026"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. The church consists of three distinct \r\ncongregations—Cantonese, Mandarin, and English—each shaped by unique cultural, linguistic, and generational identities. Although doctrinally unified, these congregations have historically functioned in parallel, reflecting relational fragmentation common in diaspora church contexts. Using a qualitative intervention design, the project examined the impact of a jointly organized Chinese New Year outreach initiative. Data were collected through pre-event focus groups, participant observation, and post-event focus groups. The findings indicate that language and leadership culture serve as primary boundary markers; however, participation in shared mission significantly reduced relational distance and increased mutual trust. The outreach functioned as a Third Space, temporarily flattening hierarchical and generational divides and fostering practical interdependence. Theologically interpreted through Ephesians 2, 1 Corinthians 12, Acts 2, and diaspora missiology, the study argues that unity in immigrant churches is sustained not through structural proximity but through outward-facing participation in the Missio Dei. Sustainable unity requires adaptive leadership, intercultural competence, structural integration, and repeated shared mission. This research demonstrates that linguistic diversity can become a missional asset when reoriented around shared vocation."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["admin_set/default-default-approving","admin_set/default-default-depositing","admin_set/default-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Default Admin Set"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["dminadmin@tiu.edu"],"_version_":1866556061035528192,"timestamp":"2026-05-29T20:29:35.542Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2026-05-19T21:08:49Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2026-05-19T21:18:11Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"4e665ddf-c486-4d59-872d-158324c46ae4","accessControl_ssim":["bd471cea-41c8-45e1-9d76-428ac026beb6"],"hasRelatedMediaFragment_ssim":["fb1fd1b5-62ac-43d6-864b-73a7e80c119d"],"hasRelatedImage_ssim":["fb1fd1b5-62ac-43d6-864b-73a7e80c119d"],"depositor_ssim":["oswann@pts.edu"],"depositor_tesim":["oswann@pts.edu"],"title_tesim":["Empowering the Margins: Exploring Church Planting and Sustainability by Socioeconomically Disenfranchised Black Communities in Majority-White Mainline Denominations"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2026-05-19T21:08:48Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2026-05-19T21:18:11Z","isPartOf_ssim":["admin_set/default"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["4ceeb94f-41b8-48a0-8d22-638e958a8a9c"],"hasLease_ssim":["daf7b9e2-67a2-41a1-ac18-b07db53d5fa8"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"format_tesim":["PDF"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"discipline_tesim":["Missional Leadership"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Pittsburgh Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Dr. Scott Hagley"],"committee_member_tesim":["Rev. Centered on two congregations in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania, this qualitative multiple-case study explores how church plants and community-rooted ministries navigate questions of sustainability, leadership, legitimacy, and mission within contexts shaped by economic disenfranchisement, racial marginalization, and uneven institutional support.\r\n\r\nDrawing upon interviews, congregational narratives, theological reflection, and ecclesiological analysis, this study investigates the organizational, relational, and theological patterns that contribute to congregational continuity and resilience. Particular attention is given to the ways ministry within marginalized communities frequently operates through networks of relational trust, communal presence, shared responsibility, adaptability, and spiritual commitment rather than through institutional models typically associated with dominant church-growth paradigms.\r\n\r\nThe findings reveal that congregational sustainability within marginalized contexts cannot be adequately measured solely through traditional institutional metrics such as financial stability, numerical growth, or organizational scale. Instead, participating congregations demonstrated forms of ecclesial vitality rooted in relational ecosystems of care, interdependence, community memory, and grassroots leadership. The study further identifies tensions between dominant ecclesial assumptions and the lived realities of ministries serving marginalized communities, particularly regarding how legitimacy, effectiveness, and sustainability are defined and evaluated.\r\nThis dissertation argues that broader theological and institutional conversations surrounding church planting, sustainability, and leadership formation must become more attentive to the experiences and insights emerging from marginalized congregational contexts. To be known requires respect and understanding of their communities’ pastoral needs and religious practices. Sadly, many leaders have a colonial mentality that foments stereotypes and even prejudice toward Hispanics. The only way to move beyond this mentality is to sincerely enter into relationships with Latino(a)s, and understand how they see themselves. This respectful understanding must begin with our Church leaders. Latino/as want to share their cultural and religious practices that connect them to their families and ancestors. Although the Hispanic Catholics play a vital role in the life of the Church, barriers to inclusion remain. Hispanic Catholics want to fully participate in the Church’s mission to serve the whole community. They are eager to share their gifts through collaborative service in their parishes.\r\n\r\nIn this thesis project I reveal Hispanic communities that are already present but not often seen. I introduce their religious practices to the larger community including church leaders. I focus on the religious practice called Adoración Nocturna Mexicana (Mexican Nocturnal Adoration). A practice where members of the Mexican Catholic communities spend the night in adoration before the Blessed Sacrament of the Altar where, like all Catholics, they worship the true presence of Jesus Christ in the consecrated hosts reposited in the Tabernacle and exposed in the monstrance on the altar during nocturnal adoration vigil. The study shows how Hispanics have historically and are presently practicing nocturnal adoration as part of their popular religious practices. More importantly, I explore what drives them toward these religious practices. By listening to their stories, I have heard their heartfelt voices as they express their needs and desires, spiritually, socially, and emotionally. I also demonstrate how they emulate the Samaritan woman at the well (John: 4-42), and like her are moved to evangelization when they also come to the realization of being known and therefore loved by Christ. \r\n\r\nI delve into the pastoral, social, and theological dimensions of Hispanic popular Catholicism and devotional practices, referred to as Santo praxis and lo cotidiano (the everyday). \r\n\r\nThe goal is to demonstrate how popular religious devotion is forged in the historical struggles of people who are oppressed. I describe in detail the rituals promoted by Adoración Nocturna Mexicana. \r\n\r\nAnd finally, share a theological reflection of the study’s findings and a pastoral response related to the importance of intercultural competence for effective leadership and accompaniment of Hispanic communities.\r\n"],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/downloads/53c67891-28b0-4cc7-90c6-569a51b7443c?file=thumbnail","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["admin_set/default-default-approving","admin_set/default-default-depositing","admin_set/default-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_ids_ssim":["53c67891-28b0-4cc7-90c6-569a51b7443c"],"file_set_ids_ssim":["53c67891-28b0-4cc7-90c6-569a51b7443c"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Default Admin Set"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["rmendez@student.ctu.edu"],"_version_":1854424409589153792,"timestamp":"2026-01-15T22:42:11.142Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2025-12-18T15:27:08Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2025-12-18T15:27:11Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"526bfd14-5abe-43ad-8c46-d48b5e10bb18","accessControl_ssim":["3a48edd2-ffb6-4312-8015-6f37a8ded66c"],"depositor_ssim":["martins02@moravian.edu"],"depositor_tesim":["martins02@moravian.edu"],"title_tesim":["How Christian practices are used by laypeople to attract others to the Christian faith"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2025-12-18T15:27:07Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2025-12-18T15:27:07Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["c0eadef2-14d7-4029-a276-72acb7fed2c3"],"hasLease_ssim":["025838df-0de4-4695-9e26-3dd73700c722"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["DMin"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Lancaster Theological Seminary"],"year_tesim":["2019"],"video_embed_tesim":[""],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. Lancaster, Pennsylvania, is such a community that has been affected by the constant evolving of values and views on how to attract millennials to the Christian faith. This research project attempts to bring an understanding of the religious landscape in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, regarding millennials. The project seeks to examine how Christian practices are used by millennial (age 18-35) laypeople to attract their peers to the Christian faith in the twenty-first century Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Upon attempting to answer this question, it is hoped that recognized effective strategies are found in “concrete practices that ordinary people identify within their everyday lives as contributing to their human thriving…” Humans thrive when they have an intrinsic relationship that produces a shared love of neighbor. Attractive practices used by Chrisstian millennial laypeople can produce a shared love of neighbor, making an intrinsic relationship special, special in the sense that attractive practices distinguish themselves from ordinary deep friendship based on being Godly holistic."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com","martins02@moravian.edu"],"_version_":1851860327898021888,"timestamp":"2025-12-18T15:27:12.288Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2025-05-15T03:35:30Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2025-05-15T04:06:55Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"f767517e-bdaa-4b26-92aa-b0284606ed67","accessControl_ssim":["3b4bce34-47f1-4ed2-93a1-d29b159b7282"],"hasRelatedMediaFragment_ssim":["249e49d8-450d-41b9-96ed-cc2fd95313e2"],"hasRelatedImage_ssim":["249e49d8-450d-41b9-96ed-cc2fd95313e2"],"depositor_ssim":["desmartica@yahoo.com"],"depositor_tesim":["desmartica@yahoo.com"],"title_tesim":["From Adam to the Apostles: A Theological and Biblical Examination of Earthly Inheritance and its Implications for Contemporary Church Members of the Uniontown Church of Christ"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2025-05-15T03:35:29Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2025-05-15T04:06:47Z","isPartOf_ssim":["admin_set/default"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["29ad7896-1dbd-4610-9f32-308571e62223"],"hasLease_ssim":["09811d62-a952-46ab-afb5-3b444ad4ded1"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Pittsburgh Theological Seminary"],"year_tesim":["2025"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. It addresses two key research questions: (1) the internal and external factors influencing church multiplication, and (2) the role of theological\r\nframeworks in shaping these practices. \r\n\r\nBridge Church, grounded in the Gospel of the Kingdom theology, emphasizes relational depth, spiritual formation, and organic leadership transitions. While this approach fosters sustainable, mission-aligned growth, it faces challenges such as delayed multiplication and leadership fatigue, often influenced by life-stage constraints and strong relational bonds. In contrast, Green Hill Church adopts principles from the Church Growth Movement (CGM), prioritizing structured training, hierarchical efficiency, and rapid multiplication. Though effective in achieving numerical growth, this pragmatic approach can result in emotional strain, fragmented relationships, and premature leadership assignments.\r\n\r\nThe findings indicate that sustainable church multiplication requires a balance of theological integrity, relational trust, structured leadership pathways, and life-cycle sensitivity. Integrating the relational and theological depth of Kingdom theology with the strategic clarity of CGM offers a promising framework for growth. This study proposes a hybrid model that combines theological formation, mentorship-based leadership development, and adaptive strategies to foster mission-driven, culturally responsive, and inclusive multiplication practices within Korean and Korean immigrant church contexts."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["admin_set/default-default-approving","admin_set/default-default-depositing","admin_set/default-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Default Admin Set"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["dminadmin@tiu.edu"],"_version_":1831295062504374272,"timestamp":"2025-05-05T15:31:06.872Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2025-04-21T19:14:40Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2025-04-21T19:14:42Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"375aeb15-e1b1-48c6-802a-ad567557b517","accessControl_ssim":["0c497667-b272-49c4-a1a0-3e89e9f6fe0e"],"depositor_ssim":["jsims@pts.edu"],"depositor_tesim":["jsims@pts.edu"],"title_tesim":["Where Two or Three Are Gathered: Contemplative Prayer as Place-Making Mission "],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2025-04-21T19:14:39Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2025-04-21T19:14:39Z","isPartOf_ssim":["admin_set/default"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["bb1795ff-e5e8-4521-a7b1-affcc20b73e6"],"hasLease_ssim":["9de8f530-b0af-4f30-a8e5-9650342fff7e"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry "],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Pittsburgh Theological Seminary"],"year_tesim":["2025"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min.
