The thesis of this dissertation is that essential administrative tasks in churches of 150 and under can be identified, prioritized and evaluated.  A focus group of pastors identified twenty-five essential administrative tasks.  A survey instrument was designed and sent to 460 churches of 150 and under.  Approximately 133 pastors and 68 lay leaders responded to the survey and submitted data which was tabulated utilizing computer statistical analysis. Administrative strengths and weaknesses were identified. Two discussion groups (those active in the congregation) consisting of two each of the four function pairs were selected.  The sermon was preached and discussed at midweek, rewritten, preached during Sunday worship and then discussed with the second group. A group of ministers participated in a two-session investigation of form and function of the Lord's Supper.  They reflected on 1 Cor 10:14-22 and 11:17-34 and various liturgical forms from the Didache to Keith Watkins' model of communion service.  The study determined a need for changes in the standard liturgy. The research, accomplished through mail-out questionnaires and personal interviews, also considers the impact on the counselor/client relationship of a pastoral counselor's performance of other clergy roles in a local church that sponsors a parish-based counseling ministry. Results confirmed that counselees who are active church members respond more positively to pastoral counseling than inactive or unchurched counselees.  However, the performance of other clergy roles by the counselor did not have a negative effect on the counseling process. Five independent Christian churches were selected.  Ten-year histories revealed giving patterns.  Congregational questionnaires measured initial theological understanding. Lion's Share was prayerfully implemented.  Giving was measured one year.  Re-taking of questionnaires indicated significant theological growth, including a seveteen percent average increase in giving. He then developed classes which provide attendees with an understanding of the Bible's divine source and the blessings the Holy Spirit works through devotions.  He introduced attendees to several Bible translations, devotional books for individuals and families, and Bible study helps. A survey of Christian doctrine written to address this need, with an emphasis on African problems, was published in 1992.  This study is an evaluation of the cultural relevance and the readability of that book in the opinion of the kind of secondary and post-secondary level African theological students who will likely use the book in the future.  The sixty-four participants in the evaluation were students from a Bible college and a seminary in Kenya and a Bible college and a seminary in Ethiopia.  The research sought answers to six research questions by investigating the response to two selected chapters in the book.  To get the information needed, the study used a written survey instrument and a focus discussion group at each test location.  A combined average of 77 percent rated the book as well contextualized.
