Cognitive and attitudinal changes were measured by means of a pretest-posttest evalution instrument and compared statistically to a control group of twelve lay leaders from Hebron Baptist Church (Meridian, Mississippi). A training model including twelve sessions of lecture and group activities was developed, and a selected group of adults was enlisted.  To test for a cognitive gain of knowledge, the experimental method of pretesting and posttesting was used.  Test comparisons revealed a significant increase in the cognitive test scores of the experimental group.  A t-value of 2.76 was computed which was significant at the .01 level of confidence.
