A new theological paradigm is presented using Alistair McFadyen's The Call to Personhood, James N Poling's The Abuse of Power, and Elizabeth A Johnson in She Who Is. The research presents insights from the disciplines of sociology, theology and psychology.  These insights outline a paradigm for understanding faith which is applied in the areas of worship, religious education, counseling and mentoring. Faith as understood by the church has always been implicitly developmental but only in recent times have we made it explicit. In this thesis it is emphasized that the work of the Holy Spirit in preaching is the foundation to make preaching possible.  One of the major problems in preaching is its dryness and weakness, for preaching deals with dry biblical exegesis on the cognitive level rather than spiritual crisis.  This project combines practical suggestions for more effective and powerful preaching, supported by the Holy Spirit, with an understanding from perspectives based on biblical understanding on the work of the Holy Spirit in preaching and in writings of John Wesley and Karl Barth.  The major work of the Holy Spirit in preaching is to make the objective reality of revelation the subjective reality; consequently, preachers and audiences come to believe the text is written for them and overcome the purely cognitive level in preaching. The pastoral counselor becomes an important person who can help clarify options.  This is a case study of a Marine who received a bad conduct discharge from the US Marine Corps after being accused of being the instigator of his own accident.  His behavior became antisocial. The method is a dialogical approach between case study experience of the writer and research of available literature, particularly feminist and liberation theology and social science approaches to leadership. Alternative understandings of leadership are explored, along with issues of power and authority. Self-in-relation theory and male spirituality informed the group work, in which participants--through mutual support, personal sharing, and the use of imagination through stories and poems--sought to heal the woundedness of absent or abusive fathers, deal with dynamics of shame, anger and grief, and explore models of power inherent in connection and disconnection. The Kosin denomination follows Calvin's Reformed faith.  Thus, the Kosin denomination pulpit tends to be more oriented toward addressing the divine goal of God in preaching than in addressing the human goals.  There needs to be a balance between these two trends in preaching.  Authentic preaching means combining divine and human goals.
