It suggests that a difference in worldview is the cause: that baby boomers live out of a different worldview from that of those persons who currently attend such churches.  It then looks at Bible study, worship, and preaching as ways to shift worldview in order to open the church to baby boomers. The elements from the Kairos retreat program were distilled and included in a high school freshman program designed to initiate and integrate the freshman class more quickly. The result was an earlier incorporation of that particular freshman class into the community. Peer ministry (six students with five faculty) and appropriate symbols were utilized. The author, therefore, sought for healthy models among growing churches in such settings and studied their common characteristics. Twenty-one possible growth dynamics were identified and eleven churches were studied to ascertain which of these dynamics were common to them and to what degree they might account for growth. Fifteen characteristics were found to contribute to the growth of churches and nine of these emerged as significant. This is a library study. Traditional African religion and culture, the independent African churches, African Christian theology, and the principles of liturgical theology are employed in order to examine what is involved in Africanizing worship. The study concludes that true Africanization must integrate concerns for cultural indigenization and political liberation, and that Africanized worship must reflect this integration. Literature review, surveys, questionnaires and interviews were completed to provide background information for the planning and implementation of the model.  This case study resulted in the formation of procedures to be used in the development of an effective program through the employment of sound administrative techniques, careful planning, variety of worship and meaningful services that exhibited the presence of the Holy Spirit. Interviews were conducted with students, patients and training supervisors.  Two final interviews explored the impact of such a study on the training process. This church developed a social outreach ministry that called for auxilaries of the church to be assigned to a social agency or not-for-profit community outreach to provide stewardship of time, talent, and/or money.  The African American tradition of kinship inspired this study. The nine subjects selected were currently involved in a methadone treatment program.  The subjects were divided into three groups: experimental, control and untreated control.  With the experimental group, the stimulus was spirituality. Methadone and spiritual education were combined to determine if the stimulus was helpful to the patient.  The control group was exposed to the methadone and drug education.  The untreated control group was exposed only to its current methadone treatment and basic social training education. This information was shared in the context of contemporary literature and theological reflection.
