As background, Chapter 2 offers an overview of machista and societal oppression which Hispanas have endured for centuries.  Chapter 3 reviews models feminist scholars have offered for liberating biblical texts and stories from patriarchal oppression.  The critical components explored are: denunciation, annunciation, proclamation, reclamation, and celebration. Chapter 4 describes the Hispanic women's church setting and presents a methodology for study and reflection.  Chapter 5, the focus of the total project, examines the live of six biblical women who experienced the liberation of Jesus. Chapter 6 reviews God's option for the voiceless and marginalized and presents their cry as the cry of God. It was born out of the unique conquest of the Aztecs by the Spaniards who freely intermarried with the indigenous.  Called a master symbol by Eric Wolf, Guadalupe embodies the ancient Aztec symbols with the Christian faith in the person the Blessed Virgin Mary, who initiated the New World tradition by requesting a church built to her honor.  The poor native, Juan Diego, was her spokesman. The design provides participants an opportunity to get acquainted, worship, see a video on a issue of public concern--in this case, the United Nations. They are instructed on how to write an official about their views, then they do that.  In addition to discovering that the program was workable, the author found that people will take the time to contribute to peace if they are shown how. The author also examined and reflected on the thought of Juan Luis Segundo and Reinhold Niebuhr, offering, too, his rationale for Christian involvement in the public arena. Preparing to preach within the context of numerous other pastoral duties can make it difficult to see past the coming Sunday.  At times, this limited vision may create a feeling that Sunday sermons have little connection from week to week.  This project is designed to bring cohesiveness to the preaching task. By creating a sense of direction and purpose over a year's time, preaching can be seen not as a series of isolated events but integral parts of an overall plan. Examination of the Christian year and lectionary and the impact these interdependent entities have on preaching provide a framework for the preaching planning guide.  Chapters 1 and 2 respectively look at the history, development and current status of the Christian year and lectionaries. In chapter 3, the limits and benefits of allowing the Christian year and lectionary to drive preaching are presented and evaluated.  A six-step planning guide is the basis of chapter 4. A literature review shows the laity's basic role in mission at the beginning of the twentieth century was to provide resources for church expansion.  During the twentieth century social and political crises forced the Episcopal Church to include social service in its mission understanding.  The 1979 Prayer Book provides a clear statement for lay mission.  In the project a clergy-lay team produced a study guide of the baptismal service for adult use.  The study guide questions engage the participant in theological reflection about personal mission. The project leads towards three sermons to be composed by interacting the disciplines addressed by those courses.  The sermons will draw from two or three (instead of the accustomed one) lections for a Sunday in Epiphany, Lent and Easter, 1988.  All of life's services want to be stimulated, motivated, excited, equipped and directed by worship's exercises and experiences. Films that were pastoral in theme were the primary focus of this research.  A document was completed which addressed the theological and practical considerations of utilizng media in church educational programs, as well as the impact of media upon US culture and churches.  The project then addressed the pastoral role the author fulfills within the Churches of Christ while functioning as a hospital chaplain.  The development of a 39-minute video directed towards enhancing laity's Christian response to the seriously ill was the final aspect of the project.  Resources were utilized to help focus upon script writing, patient interviews, and securing visual supplemental materials. After these components were completed, the editing process began, blending all of these components plus utilizing decision-making skills of the author's hospital experiences and the resource persons' editing expertise. This model for change places a high priority on the role of pastor as preacher, liturgist, and theologian.
