Such ministries require a theological vision which encompasses the instrumental as well as terminal goals of the agency.  The biblical concept of shalom or holistic well-being provides such a rubric. The desire of the author was to, simultaneously, conduct an effective meeting and develop a true team concept among participating staff members.  The purpose was accomplished through researching how effective meetings are conducted and implementing proven methods into a church staff meeting.  This process was followed for a period of two months with proper evaluative tools designed to show improvement. This thesis tests the degrees of secularity of all New Zealand Methodist ministers by means of a questionnaire and a follow-up interview of a small representative sample.  The results show strong theological polarities, and, on average in comparison with the laity, clergy conservatism on central tenets of faith, a more liberal attitude to peripheral belief matters, and strong liberal tendencies in social and political areas. On-site observations and in-depth interviews of thirteen non-ordained pastors and some of their significant parishioners in five Midwestern dioceses who pioneered these appointments form the basis of this study.  Among the conclusions: most parishes, after an initial period of stressful change, adopted well to this new form of pastoring. The primary focus is in the emerging field of planned giving, and the possibility of applying this program to Queen's Theological College. An andragogical educational method was used in conjunction with a qualitative research method to examine and critique present stewardship and planned giving practices. Evaluated using qualitative research methodology, the results indicate that this process encourages and enables persons to reflect on their experiences, discovering new possibilities for enhancing funeral ministry in both individual and corporate areas.
