A leader learns because he is 'motivated' to learn.  By employing six simple motivational principles, a teacher will achieve increased teaching effectiveness as the learner becomes increasingly motivated to learn. Teaching/learning theories and methodologies were researched and a theology of motivation was developed. In a survey using a Likert scale questionnaire plus a fill-in section, 92 chaplains who retired from the Navy from 1980-1985 were questioned concerning their attitude toward denominational assistance at time of retirement, their experiences in making the transition and their feelings about having served in the military. This was done to search out ways that would provide a vision for spiritual renewal and spur church growth. Christian fellowship was also used to establish a norm for Christian relationships.  The fundamental issue of this aspect of the project dealt with the power structure of the church, how power issues hindered a partnership ministry, and caused people to be divided into separate groups.  The primary focal point of this project was to address these issues by looking at images. 'The body of Christ' was utilized to emphasize that the separate groups were a part of the body of Christ. The concluding portion of this project stressed a partnership of ministry. In our high tech society the evangelical church has neglected the care of widows by relegating much of its responsibility to secular agencies. This project is a summons to the church to return to the biblical priority of caring for widows in practical ways. Using personal interviews, surveys, statistical analysis, as well as traditional methods of research, the author sought to determine exactly how serious the problem of neglect toward widows is, what their needs are, and how the church might begin a viable ministry to address these needs. Based on Scripture, the thirteen lessons draw on cognitive and behavioral psychology, vocational literature, spouse selection research and the experience of marriage counselors.  The class learns four remedies for irresponsibility: recognizing responsibility, prioritizing roles, controlling feelings and participating in a support group.  Learners identify career myths and are trained to administer an early vocational guidance instrument. Through a process of biblical education and forging an interpersonal trust relationship with the unchurched Hispanic, the pastor would have an opportunity to overcome some of the barriers of prejudice and misinformation which often prevent an Hispanic outsider from accepting an invitation to attend a Protestant church. Over the three-month test period, 47 adults participated in the home Bible study program.  Sixteen of the participants had never visited El Redentor Spanish Lutheran Church.  Of these, eleven persons subsequently attended a church worship service and five sought formal membership within four months.
