This study looks at the effects upon men of the absence of fathers and mentoring men, men's dependency upon women to meet emotional needs and men's difficulties in separating developmentally from mothers.  The work of Robert Bly, the masculine archetypes of Robert Moore and the spirituality/sexuality of James Nelson are addressed.  Two stories enjoying currency for their illustrating landmarks to mature masculinity are included.  Case studies are from the author's pastoral psychotherapeutic practice. If so, is it also possible for leadership style to have a positive effect on members' participation?  The purpose of this project is to determine the relationship between pastoral leadership style and church membership participation and to design a model of leadership style that can enhance membership participation.  The project affirmed that style can be a contributing factor to membership participation but there is not one style that will always enhance membership participation. A survey tool was used to measure the attitudes of persons in five different congregations in western Perry County, Pennsylvania.  The congregations which were studied were United Church of Christ (2), United Methodist, Presbyterian, and Lutheran.  The study also evaluated the data by age and gender indicators.  The overall study indicated a significant ecumenical openness in worship, fellowship, witness, and mission. Students have needs that can be met by the BSU director (campus minister) being involved on campus by teaching a class.  An orientation class was taught using ideas observed and researched by the director.  Class time consisted of lectures, guest speakers, questionnaires, class participation, games and a video. The result was that needs of the college students were discovered. The sessions explored basic models of communication, understanding oneself in the context of communication, developing verbal skills, developing nonverbal skills, and developing listening skills.  Two testing instruments were used as pre-tests and post-tests.  Test scores indicated a significant increase in interpersonal communication skills.
