Data gathered from 28 participants by an original questionnaire was analyzed in order to determine: if the group had a positive effect; which of Clebsch and Jaekle's four functions of pastoral care was most in effect; what variables (classifying and Pruyser's seven diagnostic) were most related to positive effect; and what program resources were reported as having the most positive effect. The method employed to determine the effective use of the biblical basis for tissue techniques was a pastoral ministry with four separate married couples counseled in eight fifty-minute sessions of pastoral therapy. Although there is an emphatic picture of the 'net' and 'pits' of sin, there also is a stronger message of salvation (wholeness). The lament psalms are most effective in providing expressions of hopelessness, anger, fear, guilt, and hope within the context of faith.  Their concept of wholeness is substantiated by contemporary scientific research.  The church needs to take its part in this emerging discovery of its own ancient world. Using the creation narratives and parallel New Testament themes, biblical bases for a theology of intimate friendship are described.  The psychological need for friendship in all stages of adulthood is documented.  Societal, sexual and ethical dilemmas about intimate friendships are described.
