As the project developed into this dissertation, testing was used to evaluate the impact on church members of the content, both concerning knowledge and also attitudes and behavioral intentions. Pretests and posttests were used to establish each attendee's knowledge, attitudes and behavior and the amount of gain after each of six teaching sessions. He explored how the experience of these survivors is reflected or not in the liturgical and social documents of the Roman Catholic Church and expressed in the Hispanic liturgical tradition. Following the method of practical theology, i.e., a praxis-theory-praxis approach, the author began with the stories of torture survivors and considered these interviews in relation to different elements of the U.S. Hispanic community. Discoveries made by participants are consistent with a 'missional church' understanding. This descriptive case study follows the journey of a preacher and congregation as they move to figural preaching over six years. A representative sampling of sermons is studies in order to trace this movement. A representative sampling of the congregation is interviewed in order to portray its response to this change and to discover connections between figural preaching and Christian practices. Noticeable change in the practice of preaching is discerned and described.
