The study utilized a case study approach describing the church planting programs of five similarly sized denominations, the statistical records for new congregations started in 1993 and 1994, and interviews with church planters,  denominational leaders, and outside consultants. A survey found that gender role differentiation was also an issue. Through a special emphasis, 'Male and female he created them: what does this mean?' the author utilized a sermon series, special Bible studies, skits/dramas, etc., to broach the topic over a ten-week period. Issues such as headship/submission in marriage and the ordination of women were not sidestepped. God's wisdom on the matter was presented, affirming His purpose for headship/submission, as well as limiting the pastoral office to qualified males. Min. project explored a number of issues and concepts about pastoral leadership in starting new churches that affect the growth and health of the new church.  It also tested a particular 'Profile of an Organizing Pastor' to see if it could predict which ministers would be most successful in starting new churches.  The research was a survey of the first pastors of non-racial/ethnic Presbyterian churches organized between 1982-1992. Transforming laypersons into leaders required seeking, encouraging, equipping, and deploying them in ministry. Spiritual formation and spiritual gifts were the primary focus. Spiritual gifts inventories were used to determine the giftedness of laity. Lectures were used in the Wesleyan class meeting format, expressing the Wesleyan spirit, supported by tools helpful in accomplishing the desired result. The spiritual gifts inventory and two evaluation questionnaires were used. Based on that research, he argues that the role of the elder is to live a life worthy of being imitated and to be capable of articulating the faith embodied by that life. The project was an evaluation study in quasi-experimental mode utilizing a pretest-posttest design with no comparison group.  The results of the research do reflect a general receptivity to the four-fold pattern but there was little indication for substantiating this pattern as a common ground for worship in the Church of the Nazarene. Suggestions are made for more effective cross-racial appointments. The method used in the survey of local congregations and the educational forums for the pastors and laity on the conference level. Even though the general experience of cross-racial appointments is positive, it is still being tolerated rather than being fully accepted. The fifteen-week seminar taught the concepts of leadership foundations, community and performance to over twenty selected church leaders. A control group of church leaders did not attend the seminar. An evaluation instrument, validated by a panel of ministry leaders was utilized among both the control group and the study group in a pre-test / post-test design. Results indicated that the leaders who participated in the study improved their scores on the post-test evaluations by a statistically significant margin, not only in the overall leadership evaluation, but also within each of the three leadership attribute categories studied. No improvement in scores was found among the control group. The context was the Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Midway, Kentucky. Two sermons and two workshops were developed to enhance the inclusiveness of new and existing members into the working ministry of the congregation. The learning was supported with scripture and methods of organization for leadership and membership responsibilities.
