These challenges created many conflicts within the congregation. In order to solve the problem at hand, the author researched the implications of missional ecclesiology for leadership through adapting the Wesleyan class meetings. The author formed and led a six weeks 'Class Leadership Training (CLT)' for the leadership that rose up in them would be able to move the entire congregation toward a more a missional response to its changing context. The curriculum was taught in two seven-week sessions, also taught as a weekend retreat, and the participants completed a pilgrimage to Mt. Angel Benedictine Abbey, Mt. Angel, OR to finish their spiritual experience. The resource was designed to provide families with an extended case study of the international adoption process. The most prominent finding was Goal #5: Institutional Living. Parents of internationally adopted children find themselves at a loss to comfort, develop, and discipline boys and girls who grew up in orphanages. Using the anthropological and cultural methodology of ethnography, particularly participant observation, the researcher discovered how the nuns preach. Through interviews with the nuns of three monasteries and the laity who live near them, the author discovered that the nuns preach by their very existence, through their prayer, and in their liturgies. Those with cultural power, mostly white men, deny power to white women, men and women of color. In this project, biblical, cultural and theological insights are explored that offer African American men a life giving and progressive masculinity.
