The author reviewed the cultural context of West Virginia and identified three obstacles the model must reduce or eliminate: low educational attainment, poverty, and geographic immobility. The author presented the model to the Candidates and Credentials Committee of the New River Presbytery, which approved the model with some suggested modifications. The theological, historical and cultural factors in this phenomenon were first examined.  An ethnographic research project was then undertaken, with the usual consents and approvals, by Focus Groups before and after participation in the Renovaré Life Streams course by thirty members of the congregation in four study groups. In response, the researcher interviewed sixteen congregants and six pastors from churches in the Washington, DC area about how they conceptualize and engage with pastoral authority. The researcher analyzed the interviews using a modified grounded theory approach. Analysis suggested congregants have an overreliance on a pastor's personal authority and an underdeveloped conception of a pastor's role authority. This project included thorough research of scripture, literature, and survey method on spiritual formation and spiritual direction. The project director researched various models and strategies of new member assimilation in order to identify the best skills. These skills were essential toward equipping the Historic Macedonia Baptist Church in the assimilation of new members. The director identified not only the necessities, but also the best practices critical for inclusion in equipping seminars. The director also developed a curriculum structured to teach four equipping sessions. The director successfully completed the sessions, thereby equipping selected leaders of Macedonia Baptist Church with new member assimilation skills. The author used ethnographic research methods.  This included  surveys of clergy and taped responses of laity. There were eight lay persons and seven clergy that took part in this study.  The author used to text in the gospel of Mark. We examined Mark 1:9-20 and Mark 16: 1-8.I listened to the responses of laity and the clergy.  I then analysed each response.   After the author reflected on the laity responses.  I then preached both texts in two small contexts, the church and the mission in which I work.The author's conclusion is that people hear many different messages from the same text. Mark Allan Powell writes in his book, What  shall they Hear? that 'in the moment of hearing a the text preached and read the listener has the power to choose what to do with our words.' Understanding the practices, motivations, and challenges millennials face will help the church emphasize mission. This research required millennial participants who could communicate in depth about their practices, motivations, and challenges in mission. Therefore, the study sample consisted of millennials in the church who are actively and regularly involved in both gospel declaration and demonstration. An ethnographic study was conducted to discern common practices and highlight opportunities for growth in the midst of church decline. The researcher examined the biblical concepts of teaching and knowing and conducted a literature review of the history of Sunday school, pedagogical best practices, and advances in cognitive neuroscience of learning. The researcher identified five themes common to these Sunday school programs that have resulted in lack of holistic formation in Sunday School as traditionally practiced: mission, attendance, commitment/engagement, format, and content. The field research yielded a pessimistic portrait of adult Sunday school in six of the seven churches studied. It was shown to be an outdated model practiced by a dwindling group. The researcher described ways, using the five identified themes, in which the aging Sunday school model could be augmented to better fulfill the goals of knowing in the biblical sense, personal transformation, and cooperation with the Holy Spirit's guidance and teachings. Teaching in ways that transform lives is a long-term cooperative effort with the Holy Spirit and can only be done in the context of a healthy church community.
