This thesis challenges that assumption by examining the valuable role that church leaders can, and should, play in the development process of effective expository sermons. After demonstrating from scripture the vested interest church leaders should have in the sermon, the thesis will look at indirect and direct ways church leaders can assist in the sermon development process. It states that true brokenness is primarily about admitting the foolish directions of our hearts, often shaped by our wounded past. An exploration of Scripture and literature formed a context for the research, conducted as a semi-structured interview. It consists of interviews and follow-up conversations with people who are lay leaders in their respective church communities. This thesis-project shows how changes were made to the session of a PC(USA) congregation to attempt to improve effectiveness, and a policy manual growing from that experience was disseminated to other church leaders for their opinions. The researcher presents a theological motivation for churches to pursue changes in the leadership structure of the session. After examining modern and postmodern paradigms, the writer asserts that accommodations to the modern paradigm do not meet the demands and expectations of ministry in a postmodern context. The writer then proposes missional values and structures to enhance the effectiveness of the local church in the postmodern context. Matthew"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Exploratory reserach was conducted to generate a descriptive summary of the coaching philosophies within the sport of football. A literature review and survey revealed two primary philosophies coaches have employed: principle- and performance-based. The researcher investigated the principle-based approach, primarily because of the values these coaches shared. The principle-oriented group contained a subset that articulated a biblical focus. A series of interviews was conducted to discover what connection biblically-based coaches might have with the leadership of Christ. The results suggested that coaching could function as a form of discipleship. This led to an exegetical investigation of the Gospel of Matthew. The result was the identification of a set of values and practices that helped Christian coaches better connect their faith with their profession. This project studies the factors involved in the healing process of victims of spiritual abuse as well as ideas from systems theory as to what factors contribute to an abusive, toxic church. The author uses a qualitative research approach and utilizes the tools of a questionnaire and interviews with nine victims of spiritual abuse in Southern Baptist churches. The book of consolation in Isaiah is used as a biblical base for understanding a theology of hope and healing from oppressive circumstances. One outcome of this study is a change model entitled 'The process of healing from spiritual abuse' which involves the phases of oppression, transition, and restoration. The study concludes that resiliency is the outcome of healing. The thesis is about developing Mandarin ministry in the Chinese Alliance Churches of Australia. It is to plant a mandarin speaking congregation in a Chinese church using the resources from both Cantonese congregations and second-generation English congregation. Using interviews with churches that have existing Mandarin ministry with mainland Chinese, the author researched and examined the contributing factors to an effective strategy to develop Mandarin ministry.
