To furnish a biblical foundation, the project follows the movement of the first century church from the temple to the house described in the Lukan narrative. Twelve elements of apostolic mission from Luke 10-11 are incorporated into a church-planting model that connects with the households of our day - pre-existing relational networks of people meeting in third places. This biblical model reproduces organically, without depending on a church building, hierarchical structures or paid clergy. It presumes a profound reorientation of ecclesiology around the missio Dei so that mission shapes structure. In order to accomplish this task, the author interviewed German field officers. Three concerns were expressed. First, current ministry priorities are unsatisfying for the majority of officers. Second, the officers long to invest more of their time in spiritual formation. Third, the officers perceive that the THQs priorities inadequately relate to their own desires for ministry. This study gives three recommendations to the Salvation Army: First, clear ministry valance. Second, maintaining relationships with officers. By studying the contemporary and historical literature on the subject, looking to the scriptures, and conducting interviews with seasoned preachers, the author reveals some of the common causes of this phenomenon. Pastors and missions leadership teams were primary factors motivating these churches. Missions champions involve others in communicating God's heart for all peoples. Missions education shapes the church culture through multigenerational learning experiences. Missions-active churches are prayerful, supportive and sending churches. The Foreign Misison Board (FMB), an auxiliary of the NBC-INC, was given the responsibility to implement the initiative. After the FMB gathered pertinent information, it planned and implemented an HIV/AIDS Leadership Empowerment Conference in South Africa July 4-9, 2004. The study design consisted of an independent assessment of observed leadership behaviors before and after implementation of the training program. Ten lay leaders from Mebane Presbyterian Church in Mebane, North Carolina were evaluated by peers and followers using the Mind Garden online multifactor leadership questionnaire (MLQ 5X). The study participants underwent an intervention using biblical materials and action steps from Bass and Avolio's Leader's Notebook. The dissertation clarifies how to understand charisma and charismatic leadership in a way that helps founders to name a successor and maintain the integrity of their relationship with the followers. A review of leadership studies on charisma, charismatic leadership, and succession planning is the lens for analysis of the research on succession planning for Hillside Chapel and International Truth Center in Atlanta, Georgia.
